Hi everyone,
Looking fora DIY cleaning kit for a Sankey keg setup. I was hoping to remove the faucet and find a way to hook a line up to the shank and pump cleaning solution through it that way. Any thoughts?

Howdy! Are you looking to clean the keg, the quick disconnect, the beer line, the tap/faucet, or all of the above?Biertje? wrote:Hi everyone,

I suppose you could remove the faucet and flow cleaner back through the shank, beer out line, and then let it exit the gas in line.
Here's a video of someone cleaning just the keg:

Re: Cleaning Kit
Thanks chalmers, I'm trying to clean the beer line and tap/faucet. I have looked into it a bit further, and I should be able to take the faucet off and hook a line up to the shank directly. I've noticed a few places online that sell kits that serve that purpose, but they seem really overpriced when you see what you are getting for the price, so I was hoping to avoid the price tag with a little home ingenuity, but I just have to figure out the parts that I need, as well as the sizes (to fit a line onto the shank).
Thanks again!

No problem. I might have a female sanke connection/spear that you could to allow cleaner flow back the wrong way. Hook your QD into it, and hold over a bucket.Biertje? wrote:Thanks chalmers, I'm trying to clean the beer line and tap/faucet. When Beertech cleans lines at a bar, they rig up a keg of cleaning solution, pressurize, and flow out through the tap. If you have an extra keg that you could devote to cleaning, this may be the way to go. No extra parts required.
Something like this: http://www.divinity-systems.com/Draft_L ... 01-420.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Of course, that's the Cadillac, but you could just use a standard keg, if you've got an easy way to get in/fill it.

Re: Cleaning Kit
I have to admit, I just had my tap installed in my home, but to date I have only purchased kegs from the local microbreweries. I just discovered that it is possible to open the top of a sankey keg, which is great because I have rinse it out, fill it with cleaning product, run it through the lines, and then repeat the process with water to rinse it out. This will save me the trouble of rigging up a kit.
What did I ever do before youtube!?!?!

I managed to rinse out a sankey keg, fill it with cleaner, run it through the lines, and then repeat with water. Not the most efficient way I'm sure, but I got there. Next on the list I'm gonna get started on some home brewing.

Sounds like a plan to me!!Biertje? wrote:I managed to rinse out a sankey keg, fill it with cleaner, run it through the lines, and then repeat with water. Not the most efficient way I'm sure, but I got there. Next on the list I'm gonna get started on some home brewing.
For ease of filling and cleaning, most homebrewers keg in "corny" kegs, former Coke or Pepsi ones. They have a large lid that is easily removable for filling and cleaning. Not terribly difficult to change the fittings on your existing system to accommodate the pin- or ball-lock gas-in/beer-out posts on those legs.
