Do it yourself wort chiller

Post by mattcaissie82 » Wed Jul 27, 2016 3:51 pm

Hi

Wondering if anyone bought the wort chiller kit available at Everwood? How did it go and was it worth the savings over the assembled version?

Hey Fishboy,
My buddy's picking one up this weekend. I'll let you know how he makes out with it.
Cheers,
J

Assume you mean the immersion chiller kit? I didn't buy that but I bought the Brewers best fully assembled one and wished I had made it myself. the issue is kettle height. Making it yourself you can make it for the height of your kettle. Some of the pre assembled ones can be too short for some kettles especially if it is a small chiller and a big pot.

I think buying the kit and doing it yourself is better if the standard diameter provided in the pre-built one doesn't match you kettle. My kettle is fairly wide so I wanted mine to be short so it would be submerged when I do single batches. Here's the thread for mine:

You'll probably need one of these as well (assuming you're using 3/8" tubing):
