Does anyone know a TIG welder that could patch a hold in my new 15 gallon brew kettle? Seems the hole punch I used wasn't quite as advertised

any help from my brew brothers would be appreciated.

I'm assuming the punch was too big? What do you need to weld? HpHunter has a good setup, and might be able to help.

It was a 1-1/4" conduit punch so i think it was accounting for the size of the conduit plus wall size so the hole ended up 1-3/4". I pm'd HP but haven't heard back anything yet, maybe the shocker got him

My thinking was to patch over the hole on the inside with some other ss i have and repunch in the same spot if possible.

Is this for an element? Another option would be to throw in a bushing an weld it on the outside, then thread in your element. Welding on the inside could be tricky if it's down low in the pot.

That would work, any idea where I can find a 1" ss bushing?

What you need is a reducing bushing, from something that fits nicely into the hole you made, down to 1". let me look around. Is 1.75" the exact size of the hols you punched?

I got your message, I was just busy with concrete work (Brewery upgrades) started at 8:30am and finished up at 2:30am this morning. As Rob stated a bushing would be better. I can certainly try to weld a patch in. Worst case scenario is it ain't as pretty as could be. I don't know when I will be in the city next and I'm not sure on when your timeline is. I have a job to do for Sandy and a lot of my own work to do and can certainly do it for you.

Awesome Jeff, thanks. Sounds like you've got a lot happening down there. Let's see what x comes up with and maybe I'll take a trip down there this weekend, i've been wanting to see your setup anyway.

I have a 1.5" x 1" bushing. The threads on the 1.5" might be a bit bigger than 1.75" though, but not much.

could you tap the hole so a 1.75" bushing would screw right in?

Hot water tank heating elements are only about $20. Would they require a larger hole?

Hey, I tried to take it from you right at the beginning but you insisted you'd remember. I blame you for ALL of this.

I even think I mentioned it to Brian once... too many beers later.

The Shockerrrrr strikes again!
Boys I'll try to make her right. I mean let's face it. Welding up a tinfoil thin pot is a good challenge for anybody.
I'll stay away from the Shocker during the repairs.

Got the hole all patched up. Soldered it with Silver solder, passed all the leak tests
