yet a other e-biab setup

Post by gyorke » Tue Nov 05, 2013 11:08 am

I thought I would add to the DIY pron. Finally have some time to put my e-biab setup together. Looks a little rough but it is on it's way and should still do the job.
Went with a modified Electric Brewery style setup with a few more switches than I really needed. Parts mostly came from eBay, HomeDepot and my "things I might need some day" box (aka "that box of junk in the corner").

Bought the element and a gfi circuit breaker from Amazon and the fittings as part of a group buy on here.
Hopefully there are more pics to come.

You will need to be vigilant on brew days - that box mounted on the side of the kettle is not watertight. Boilovers and/or splashing may cause issues.

Thanks for the feedback. I intend to make it water resistant. Either cover it in tape or use some shrink-wrap I have lying around. I went with this box because it is thin enough that it allows me to just use the box, a nut and silicone gasket to attach the element and should be well grounded to the pot. I may regret the choice after the first boil but its easy to replace with something else if it doesn't work.

Cool, I'd like to see more pics of the panel, inside and out.

Here are some more pictures. Found out the alarm buzzer arrived doa, the panel box is a really tight fit and the probe leads are a little too short. Nothing that can't be remedied. Should be able to do a trial run tomorrow night. Now I just need to track down some stainless tube for the pump return and I should be brewing again.

Good job. Is that a timer in the middle? Also, why two PIDs? For future upgrades or some other reason?

The timer is on the right. That's another PID in the middle. When I started collecting the pieces my plan was to include a hot water tank for sparging and step mashes. I will likely wait until I want one to wire that part up.

Finally ready for a test run. Seems to be running well.

I'm really hoping you'll move it well away from the service panel. Also please make it a ground fault breaker. I'm sure you took all that into account. Just a bit worried here.

What, no comment about the very large pot of scalding water teetering on the saw horse ;-)
Thanks for the worry but this is not the final brewing location.

Not to mention dangerous!!! I'd rethink using that style of JB all together and get a Tested watertight box.
