Temperature Controller

Post by Earl » Thu Dec 26, 2013 8:00 pm

Well, I finally got around to assembling the STC 1000 Temperature Controller that I bought from Dave in the summer. I originally bought it to lager a Cerveza, but now I need it to stop my beer fridge from freezing everything!. My product is not quite as polished as some of the assemblies that I have seen from other. However, I pleased with the finished product considering that I built it entirely out of bits and pieces that I had lying around in the garage (I told my wife that keeping all that junk would come in handy today and after 20 years of marriage, I finally have one example where it actually did!). By the way, if anyone needs and coax cables, telephone line cable etc, I have plenty to give away!

It works like a charm. I do have a question though, what compressor cycle time do you guys use? I left it at the default of 3 minutes, but welcome advice if I should adjust it.

Thanks
Earl

I would run the cycle time up to 15 minutes.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the max with those units is 10 min. That's what I use with mine - usually it doesn't run anywhere close to that often though (depending on the ambient of course).

EDIT - just checked the manual. It can be set between 1 and 10 minutes.

$40 for the pre fab unit is a great deal. Expect to spend at least $10 on supplies and 30 min on fabrication.

I had no idea Dave carried assembled units. That's a rocking price. With buying a cord, a box, and an outlet and cover on top of 20 bucks for the controller I probably spent 40-45 bucks on mine. I'll be buying this for my ferm chamber methinks.

I'm working on it! Those just got added a few days ago.

I need someone to do web stuff for me - any takers? (hmm, maybe I'm serious about this.....)

Depending on the expertise required I'd give it a go.

Looks like I have no excuse to get my ferment chamber built. Time to start planning. Don't need one now, but can see it in the near future.
Need something that can handle 4+ batches at any given time. I'm thinking a chest freezer with milkcrates in the bottom. My wife is gonna kill me lol.
