Dryer outlet wiring

Post by TimG » Sun Jan 05, 2014 5:44 pm

So pulled off my dryer plug receptacle to have a look. It's a 4 prong, but looks like they only wired up the two hot and neutral (white). The bare ground wire is just attached to the box. I had intended on running the two hot and the ground to my boil kettle control box. This might be obvious, but should I take the bare ground wire inside the outlet box and wire it to the ground prong on the receptacle?

Getting close to a test fire of my electric brewery!!

It should go to both.

Pull it as tight as you can and attach to the box, loop it around the screw. If the slack is not enough use the same size wire and "pig tail" it to the receptacle.

Thanks guys, doubt the bare wire will make it to the receptacle so I'll have to add a chunk of wire from box to ground on receptacle.
