Kegerator W/ 3.2 Danby
Does anyone know if two corny kegs will fit inside a Danby 3.2 cu mini fridge (with the freeze removed)? It seems like it's the most popular fridge around used. See attached.

I have a 3.6 and a pin lock will fit without moving the freezer.

not sure you can remove the freezer from that fridge... in many fridges the coolant coils(?) are in the freezer compartment and cool the entire fridge
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Bent down as flush as possible with the back or side, depending on design.

I hope someone has some experience here that could help me out with that question!bluenose wrote:not sure you can remove the freezer from that fridge... in many fridges the coolant coils(?) are in the freezer compartment and cool the entire fridge
Lots of these on Kijiji - would save me a few bucks. And $$ == beer

There's a better model here, I believe a 4.4 unit from costco.

Yeah a friend mentioned that. It's still an option but I am certainly trying to do it the most cost effective way.mr x wrote:There's a better model here, I believe a 4.4 unit from costco.

I run a 4.4 and and don't think I'd be able to fit 2 kegs in anything smaller.

This is a picture of the Costco 4.4 Danby. 2 kegs fit perfect.

Pretty sure Sandy's right about bending the freezer compartment down rather than attempting a removal (if that's even possible?).
But a word of caution about modified freezered minifridges: they can freeze your lines. One of my kegerators has a freezer that was just bent out of the way to fit two ball-lock kegs and, if I don't keep it at cellar temp (or higher), my dispense line becomes a solid block of delicious but completely inaccessible beer. I'm quite content with cellar temp most of the time but it's still annoying. YMMV, but it's worth a mention.

You can't remove them as they are what chill the fridge typically.redoubt wrote:Pretty sure Sandy's right about bending the freezer compartment down rather than attempting a removal (if that's even possible?).

Do you have a small fan in to circ the air? Usually fixes the freezing lines (although it depends how close they are I guess).

I've done it with that exact fridge and needed to add a collar to it. I burned it out by trying to put 3 kegs in. It just couldn't handle it.

Re: Kegerator W/ 3.2 Danby
Allan, I don't. Bought the thing used on Kijiji and just set it up "as is". Come to think of it, the guy probably sold it because it froze his lines. Not that he'd share such a thing with a potential buyer. Thanks for the suggestion; it's good to know there's an easy solution. I'll have to sort out a fan.AllanMar wrote:Do you have a small fan in to circ the air? Usually fixes the freezing lines (although it depends how close they are I guess).
So, SealClubber, at least you know how to prevent freezing lines if you go this route. My suspicion is that a 3.2 won't take two cornies but you could always ask sellers to measure the usable (i.e., non-hump) floor space in the fridge...

I don't hear this often, especially from a lady.redoubt wrote:Pretty sure Sandy's right about bending the freezer compartment down rather than attempting a removal (if that's even possible?).

As for the floor space in the fridge, you can "carefully" cut some of the "hump" material away to gain an inch or so and remove the door panel.

Re: Kegerator W/ 3.2 Danby
The Costco 4.4 is only ~$150, I have built a few of them and it is really easy. It fits 2 ball lock kegs and a 5lb CO2 perfectly. In the older model you could remove the plastic from the door, but the newer design requires you to cut out the door pieces which makes a bit of a mess.Jimmy wrote:I run a 4.4 and and don't think I'd be able to fit 2 kegs in anything smaller.

To me. I will keep you guys in the loop. According to another beer forum it will require some magic to fit two pin locks. Standby!GAM wrote:It is sold PPU according to the seller.Broob wrote:4.4 Danby on kijiji right now $100

Re: Kegerator W/ 3.2 Danby
I concur with the folks on here regarding the Danby 3.2 and trying to remove the freezer compartment. It likely won't work well. I used a Whirlpool 4.4 from Canadian Tire (on sale $199 from $229 but had points ) which is the same as the Danby 4.4. Just enough for two ball locks and 5lb. C02. However if I had to do it all again, I would buy the Danby kegerator from Costco $449 delivered. Future Shop might price match/beat and order as one of my friends bought his this way from a FS in Orillia, ON, as they are a Danby agent. A couple friends of mine took my suggestion and are very happy. By the time I converted mine, bought nice glass rails, added a caster coaster, tower, lines, Perlicks etc., I could've easily modded the Danby kegerator and saved time and money. I do like mine, however but just saying that the kegerator pre made is the way to go unless you've got access to all the bits and pieces and a cheap proper fridge. Whrilpool does make a smaller 3.6(I believe) which will do the trick with one Corny but again, given hassles and cost, the Danby kegerator is the way to go.

I have mine installed and two pin locks (and 5lb tank) will fit if you grind off the lower drawer hangers.SealClubber wrote:To me. I will keep you guys in the loop. Re: Kegerator W/ 3.2 Danby
I have a Danby mini fridge that I've had for a while. It's the one with the freezer so I have never even thought about converting to a kegerator. I did just watch a video on bending the freezer section down. Seemed fairly straight forward. Other than potentially ruining the fridge, anybody seen any issues with trying this?
