Seal

Post by Keith » Mon Aug 18, 2014 11:19 am

Hey,
Any recommendations on how to create a gasket or a seal for a bucket lid? I don't believe the ice cream buckets I picked up are air tight and am hoping to find a means to create a air tight seal to keep the grain fresh, and well the grain smell down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like you might be better off getting icing buckets from the grocery store. They already have gaskets and the price is right (free).

I don't know if it's an issue, grain bags themselves aren't airtight. Just keep it in a dry space.

Line your buckets with plastic bags like the white kitchen catchers, twist and clamp them with a closepin
Kegged: El Dorado IPA, Rocketfuel 2.0, Wet Hopped Pale, Ryrish Red, Marzen, BN Exchange Dunkel, BN Exchange NEIPA, Lies Lies Lies - Citra <0.5% ale
Fermenting: NZ Pilsner with Enigma, Strawberry brett cider

not a bad idea. temporarily I may use some sobeys bags over the top and snap the lid down on those. Just don't want to take all the grain out again. :cheers2:

I decided to inquire...
Dear Mr Forbes,

We thank you for your interest in Farmers ice cream.

11.4L ice cream pails are airtight and are not susceptible to freezer burn or air spoilage, but if they have been thawed and refrozen due to temperature abuse at any point in the chilled distribution chain, then the texture would be gritty/grainy.

Hope this helps,
