DIY - Counterflow wort chiller
Today I made a counterflow wort chiller.
Material I bought:
20' of 1/2" soft copper tubing
http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/plumb ... VvAS0YW2O2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
21' of 3/4" Vehicle Heater Hose
http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/3 ... -p4240255e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Counterflow chiller kit
https://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/pro ... iller-kit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Total cost was around 95$.
I used a saw to cut the ends of the copper tubing since they were crooked. Also used sand paper to polish the ends of copper pipe. Palmolive detergent for lubricating the copper tube so it would slide in easier in the hose.
More pics to come...

Gj. What fittings are you putting on the copper?

Thanks guys, I don't consider myself very handy but using dave's kit was easy. I made a 10 gallon batch and a 15 gallon batch this week and used my chiller and worked pretty well!

I'm just hooking up 1/2" silicone tubing directly to the copper, no leaks.Keith wrote:Gj. What fittings are you putting on the copper?

I ended up putting hose clamps because I started noticing a bit of air going through the input of the copper pipe. Now it's perfectly sealed and it's helping me get lower temps because the copper pipe is now filled 100% with wort(that's my theory anyways).

Nothing but gravity. My deck has stairs, I put my carboy at the bottom of the stairs. There is a good flow.
