Hot Rod Heat Stick

Post by wader98 » Thu Apr 28, 2016 3:20 pm

Not looking to revive an old thread but wondering if there ever was a group buy for the Brewhardware Hot Rod Heat Stick? I know jtmwhyte had purchased one (which started the thread).
Before I drop 100$ on one does anyone have experience with one? Or have one they are not using? I'm currently brewing 3 gallon stove top batches but need some more boiling power...

I have one...I think I'm 22 x 11 Gal batches in on mine. Love it! Would buy another in a heart beat, although that will never happen...it's that great! Can't recommend it enough!

Can you post a pic of it along with your controller?

As promised...excuse the filth on the heat stick...I didn't get around to giving it a soak in PBW after my last brew day. Don't judge...

Forgive my ignorance but does that maintain a temp or is it used to bring it to a boil as well?

In theory you could. I use it to boil primarily...I mash in a 70qt cooler, so unless I go under on my mash temp, I only need it to boil the wort.

I saw a video of a guy using an allied stainless steel bucket heater. Can be found on eBay.ca for around $50, other places for under $75
Here is someone's brewing review

Best deal I saw for this was Amazon.ca Prime and it was $70+ tax. I bought one online at TSC in Ontario and pretty well paid that by the time a buddy picked it up and shipped it to me. ($78) $31.00 US at their TSC Stores. They're only 1000W and I initially got it for sparge water and to turbo my Grainfather but since obtained a sparge water heater. If you're thinking using it for mash water, two words: forget it.

I think this might be the solution to my Berliner dilemma.
