Anyone here doing BIAB? Where did you get your fabric? I was thinking fabricville, but thought there might be somewhere cheaper.

I am thinking about giving BIAB a try to shorten/alleviate the cleanup process.

I'm just using a jumbo bag from NG. It's a tight fit around the top of my 20L pot but it's fairly deep. However I want to check Fabricville fore some voile matterial as it is a bit finer.

got some at I think fabriccille for like 5 bucks or something. it was 2 year ago. sewed it to fit y pot, but now I'm usi it in a cooler and doesn't fit great. might make a new one sometime

Have either of you brewed all-grain using the traditional method as well?

I am doing kind of a mix... using the fabric in my mash tun instead of a manifold. I mistyped earlier, I'm hoping to upgrade to a manifold soon (not a larger bag). The biggest issue I've noticed is that the liquid that drains from the bag is quite cloudy (you can't do any sort of vorlauf with it). not sure how that influences my beer, though.

How does the clarity of the final beer end up?

I haven't. I have lots of trub in my fermentor and crystal clear beer.

Ncm might have a large bag that would work. HD and the rest sell 20 gal strainers too.

She's full of shit...and will be up first thing in the morning sewing that sack, especially if she plans on drinking any of the beer!

What did you get and how much was it?

It was the 100% polyester voile material, it was like 10 bucks

apparently nylon voile is a bit better if it's going to have heat applied directly (i think)

i've been using the polyester myself with no problems, though. couldn't find nylon there when i looked

edit: maybe i have them backwards and polyester is better. dunno.

I've got a false bottom in my mash, so I am not too concerned about it.

I'm thinking if this works out alright, I'll be able to setup 2 of my keggles and do two different 5 gallon batches at once...or even 3 if I feel really ambitious

Anyone ever tried game bags aka field dressing bags? Ive got one here in my hand and although it doesn't say what its made out of it looks and feels exactly the same as the bags you would use for steeping grains in an extract batch. They are already in the form of a bag so no sewing required and they are big enough to hold a entire deer.

From what I've read, acrylic, polyester, cotton all work. Not sure what else is ok to use though.

Just finished cleaning up and hit everything right on target...it was my easiest brew day yet

I used my hop spider for the first time ever, it's warped to shit and just about fell into the boil kettle. I like the way it works, but I've got to find a stainless solution to keep the PVC from melting!

Right on. My numbers are good so far today too. My pot is in a "snow bath" in my sink cooling down now. My CFC is a pain in the ass to use with stove top brewing, no pump yet.

Jimmy, what is the name of the fabric you picked up? I was just at Atlantic Fabrics and they had no idea what I was talking about when I asked them for voile. I did see some polyester mesh curtain liner; didn't grab it because I wasn't sure. I'm just looking for something to stuff into my 19L pot until I get one made for the keggle.
