Downsizing - My new compact brewing setup
So now that I'm getting rid of the single tier, I decided to go with a single burner setup and picked myself up a Blichmann. Quality on this thing is top notch, hopefully it lives up to the reviews.

It looks like the one sleepyjamie has and it's a beast! Doesn't take long to get temps up at all.

The burner was $169 and the leg extensions were $49. All said and done, it was ~$220; equivalent to the online pricing.

I haven't measured, but as far as I know, it's 24" from the top of the burner to the bottom of legs.sleepyjamie wrote:i was thinking about getting the leg extensions as well. how tall are they?Jimmy wrote:The burner was $169 and the leg extensions were $49. don't leave it outside, that burner will rust (the cast iron part) but coating it with oil from time to time helps!!

Re: Downsizing - My new "stand"
Sticking with my compact theme, I found a stand to place my cooler high enough that I can gravity feed the wort into the kettle - using my pump for water transfers only.
It's the perfect height for the burner & pot, collapses like a mofo (literally, 20 seconds), and is rated for 250lbs per shelf.

Not to kibosh your own sale of the keggles (to me in particular) do you find the OBK 15gal pot better then your keggles?

Re: Downsizing - My new compact brewing setup
For my uses, yes. I hate the weight of the keggles when lugging them around my apartment and trying to clean them in my bath tub...but I guess weight is what also makes a good pot. If I was in a house brewing outside on my back patio, lawn, etc. I'd be using keggles, but brewing on my apartment balcony and having to lug the kegs inside is just too much work for me.Graham.C wrote:Not to kibosh your own sale of the keggles (to me in particular) do you find the OBK 15gal pot better then your keggles?
So there's a tradeoff, both have their own advantages/disadvantages.

I'm in the same boat. I have to lug around my equipment in my house and keggle is more heavy and bigger.

Re: Downsizing - My new compact brewing setup
I'm in the same boat. I live in a basement apartment so I have to lug my gear upstairs every time I brew, so maybe the pot is a better option for me. Then again I don't plan on being in this apartment for more then another year. I'll sleep on my choices and let you know when I come to a decision. If someone else offers to buy the keggle, don't wait out for me as I am leaning towards the pot. Thanks Jimmy!
Also, I would love to hear how quickly your new burner gets you up to temp. I'm thinking that might be a really nice xmas present to myself.

Re: Downsizing - My new compact brewing setup
Haven't really dialed it in yet. I had it going to bring the wort up to a boil yesterday but it was taking a while - turned it up a bit and it started boiling. It will be a bit of playing around with it before I get it set properly. Jamie might have a better idea since he's been running the same burner.Graham.C wrote:I'm in the same boat.
