Mandarina Bavaria & New Zealand Orbit are new in at Everwood and these both smell absolutely amazing. Looking forward to using these in a single hop IPA. Definately grab a pound when you can. :cheers2:

Mandarian Bavaria:
New Huell hop cultivar revealing a nice combination of hoppy, fresh and fruity aroma notes with strong tangerine and citrus nuances.

NZ Orbit:
Orbit are a trial blend of hops specially selected out of the New Zealand "Hops with a Difference" breeding programme. Stringent selection processes and long term growing trials can result in some really excellent hops being rejected on agronomic performance or other plant management issues.

These hops are selected on their unique aroma and flavour characteristics as well as their brewing quality. The hops may be grown in very small plots at the New Zealand Plant and Food Research Centre in Riwaka or in larger selected trial gardens across the region.

The bag Dave had of them wasn't overly big. I think it was a 4lb 4oz bag, and I think 2 other lbs have been claimed.

Yea I'm going APA or IPA, not sure yet. Haven't played with the recipe yet to see how I'm doing my additions. Going to brew this /w Mike and split the batches. I'm contemplating a Imperial Red with the Orbit and doing a hoppy IPA with the other.

I can get more Mandarina if there's demand. I probably will keep it as a regular, as it does smell awesome.

They are not up on the website yet but if you want me to set aside a lb let me know. First come first served!

1 lb of Mardarina left
8 lbs of NZ Orbit

Thanks

Dave

I'm half tempted to get another lb of Mardarina. But will let someone else jump on it. I think Trevor was wanting it, I can't wait to brew with it. Gonna be amazing.

MB = 7.6%
NZ Orbit = 5.7%

The NZ Orbit has a tropical fruit aroma, I could pick out some pineapple, grapefruit, other citrus notes and apparently there should be a bit of pine aroma too. It's got a sweeter smell and reminds me a bit of Galaxy and/or Zythos.

They smell amazing enough that I'm thinking about bringing the Sackvegas Smash back to the taps.

Which harvest year was the hops that were used? The cool thing about Orbit is that it's different every year. So the 2012 Orbit wouldn't be the same as the 2013. They base the blend off of the 4 best/most interesting strains from the New Zealand hop breeding program every year. The ones I have are the 2013 harvest.

I don't know. I bought a growler and poured most of it out.

I had a couple beers from Epic in NZ and aroma was quite similar to Galaxy - really delicious smelling and tasting. Maybe just a coincidence? Would be delicious in an APA.
