Rockbottom is a solid choice for this - you know the beer is going to be great, it's got a fairly large seating area, they are always willing to let us arrange the seating area to suit the group, and they have the growler fills on the spot now so you can take a growler or two home with you

Brewnosers weekly pub get-togethers
Something I've noticed over the past year or two is the decline in the number of informal weekly gatherings at the local pubs. Hart & Thistle used to be the "go to" spot on Fridays (I think it was Friday) after work to meet up with other Brewnosers. It's something that we should really start doing again..it gets the club together, brings new members out to meet the club (the monthly meetings could be a little intimidating for new members), and it helps support the local beer scene.

Having a designated spot and something on a Friday evening might also make it easier for the guys and girls from out of town to come to the city to hang out with fellow Brewnosers.

Other good things about the RB ...there's a tame Master Brewer there. They have Fathom. Great food. It's less commercial, and has a pub feel to it.

We used to get together on Fridays a lot at Maxwell's when I showed up. Unfortunately, the firkin quality went downhill fast. I'm more partial to Saturday afternoon's at Stillwell myself....
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

^This^ Friday after work is always tough for me - we treat it as family night after the work week.mr x wrote:We used to get together on Fridays a lot at Maxwell's when I showed up. Unfortunately, the firkin quality went downhill fast. I'm more partial to Saturday afternoon's at Stillwell myself....

I'm from out of town. Going to the RB at lunch used to work well. I could have a couple of pints at lunch, then by the time it came to drive home at supper time, the booze had worn off.Jimmy wrote:it easier for the guys and girls from out of town to come to the city to hang out with fellow Brewnosers.
Being from out of town, unfortunately involves a long drive. Also trips to the city for me are usually a family affair, with a need to get home in time to put the kids to bed.

Saturday afternoons are good, though for some of us, that's prime brewing time (though that could be moved to Sunday).
Doesn't hurt to set something up solid up now, and gauge the response. Having said that, this Saturday is a no go for me.

I think it's going to be hit-and-miss across the board. For some folks Fridays will never work, for some Saturdays will never work. Compromise? Maybe we can switch it up sometimes - Friday night one week, Saturday afternoon the next. This creates some more flexibility for folks to attend. With it being Friday or Saturday, Kirsten and I would certainly have an easier time coming.

I agree with this because of it being firkin Wednesdays - though it's not a very good day for out of towners.GAM wrote:Wed at RB for a beer.

A couple other things to consider:
-The reason behind picking a particular day is to make it so it's likely you'll be able to meet up with another Brewnoser without having to post up, plan ahead or whatever. You can pop in last minute and there's a good chance you'll find someone to have a beer with.
-We should really be utilizing RB for this type of get together. We, as a club, should be supporting Nash as much as possible. He does a lot for the club and we should return the favor. It doesn't mean we only go to RB, but we can at least use it as our weekly meeting spot. I know they may not have the best food in town, but they do have the best beer in town...which is what it's really all about

Re: Brewnosers weekly pub get-togethers
I wouldn't worry about trying to accommodate me, because we make it to town so rarely. Another thing is, city people like to escape from the city and come to the valley on occasion. Especially in the summer. We could have a pub lunch/afternoon/crawl from time to time up here.
If anyone is heading to the valley, would they post here, so valley people can meet up with you for a beer? or perhaps we need a regular (monthly?) thing up here as well. First Sunday in the month maybe.
