Do you mean specifically for Hogie's beer since it started at 1.080? I seriously doubt it will ever reach 1.010 though given the grain bill - even with a healthy fermentation. I don't see autolysis being an issue at all either if he makes sure to crash the beer well.

Can you find out where RobD's beer is sitting? Realistically I think to make a decision, all the options need to be known - if Rob's beer hit the numbers a bit better, I'd say that's the way to go though.
OG: 1.104 (June 18th)
Currently at: 1.042

Used a smackpack of 1056. No starter (which explains the 1.042)

I was planning to rack it over onto some new yeast tonight. I could take a sample when doing that, and take the sample to Chalmers' tonight if someone wanted to taste it before counting on it.

i've got a keg of RIS that could be used. It isn't the same recipe though, 1.113 down to 1.030.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Can you post the recipe? If it's at least in the ballpark, I think so far that's the best option put forward.

Other than the black patent and the molasses, it's similar - percentages are slightly different too I guess. How does it taste? Steve brought over a bottle one night but my memory is fuzzy at best.

It was still tasting "hot", and the molasses was prominent last time I tried it but I knew it was going to need to age. I'm sure once it got diluted it wouldn''t have much of an overall effect on 180ltrs. It's your collective call, either way I have RIS :mmm:

I think RobD's will be fine if he gets it onto some new yeast. And none of these beers will hit 1.010, 1.030 being a better finish if you start at 1.100. But it would be good to have the option of using LD's in a pinch, if you can work on short notice.

I can if need be. Also Chalmers and Tim Gregory's beers finished at 1.022 from 1.099

Sounds like we have the correct volume if Johnny did a double batch.

10 cornies = 190L =approx 50Gal > 180L stated barrel volume
Sorry fellas, been on the road for way too long and just caught up with this thread.....

I have only brewed a 5 gallon batch as I thought that's what we were all doing in order to allow more people to participate. So, does that mean we're short on volume?

The reported 180 litres was what Daniel at Glenora told me, I'll drop by the warehouse this afternoon and see if there is anything stamped on the butt.

hmmmmmmm, I'm thinking we want RobD in (I'm assuming a blast of fresh yeast will help his out), and possibly LD. Brewing another 5 gallons might mean you are just stuck with 5 gallons if we don't need it, but it's your call. I guess we're keeping hogie on-board?

I too could brew this weekend. If it doesn't get used this time I can save it for the next barrel.

Or Sandy and I can get together for a brew

I think that's a good idea if it doesn't put yous out. It will only get better for the next barrel, which won't be long off. But it looks like a hot weekend.

Very good. I really feel we had better be prepared to have 53 gal+ of good beer ready to go.

I just checked the schedule and it seems that I'll be brewing first thing Sunday morning. I have a 1 year old so I get up early (like 5:30 early!). So let's plan to brew separately this time. However, I have yet to brew a collaboration brew, so I want in on the North-End brew day!

He did, but I want to make sure we have enough beer. I had been assuming jmac had brewed 10 gallons, which he did not. And I'm still not sure what to do with hogie's beer, kinda waiting for feedback from the other participants.....
