Re: Hoptoberfest 2016
October 15 works for me. If it's a smaller crowd this year (which I suspect from the trends I'm seeing lately) then we can move indoors as the evening chills.
I'll be away and mostly off line until October 12 so I won't have much involvement in the organization. If someone else steps up now and commits to leading the logistical aspects we can commit to this date at my place.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2016
Ok, let's get on this. We're going to need ice, food, and I think promotion was on the list.
Promotion is probably a bigger deal, since it doesn't look like a lot of activity this year.
For ice, the usual thing the last few years has been to fill coolers at the gahan house, but every year we end up with way more ice than we really need. A couple of coolers is probably enough. Really, if everyone just brought a bag that would probably be plenty. It might also be a bit cooler being later in the year.
For food, any ideas? The hop sausages we got last year were great, but somebody would have to plan that out. Lucas did it last year, maybe he has a contact. Does anybody have any other ideas? Maybe even just a more organized potluck would be good, if we did a theme or something, and used the signup sheet.

I second Andrew's nomination for chairperson of the event. Seeing no other nominations I declare him acclaimed.
I accept the honour of hosting on October 15 at my place in west end Halifax. E-mail me if you don't know where I live.

Hooray! Everybody come have a good time at Kyle's! I tell everybody that this is where you get the best beer in the province. If we could use the sign up sheet that would be good, just to get an idea of how many people will be there. Maybe closer to then when there's a better guess for attendance we can add a column for food. I'm expecting to be able to attend for longer than I planned originally, so I'm looking forward to a good time!

Re: Hoptoberfest 2016
I got the sausages from Grant at Cavicchis' Meats in Tantallon. If people want hops sausages again he was very accommodating. I just told him that it was for the Brewnosers and he remembered Greg Nash. He basically uses his regular recipe and adds an ounce or two of hops. I dropped off hops about a week before the date. I think I gave him some noble-ish hops, possibly Styrian Goldings. I picked up the sausages the day before the event.
Enjoying: Black Sheep (Dark Farmhouse with Brett)
Fermenting: NZ Pale Ale, Orval Clone, Berliner Weisse, Brett APA
Planning: Old Rasputin Clone

Re: Hoptoberfest 2016
I made my own recipe for the beer and hop sausage, it's what Grant made for us a bunch of times - it's posted in the recipe section. I'd bring him a container with enough pre-measured/mixed spice, beer and hops to lace 30 lbs of pork, he was always happy to obligeLucas wrote:I got the sausages from Grant at Cavicchis' Meats in Tantallon. We're almost up to 85 000 registered participants (thanks, Keith) so it should be an awesome night.

I'm right now tentative on attending. This project is all over the map and as it looks right now I'll be working, but the timeline has changed 6 times in the past month.

my white ipa brew day turned into a disaster, so I'm brewing a hoppy american saison with amarillo and cascade today instead.

Hey all, we're five days out. If you haven't yet signed up on Kyle's list in the original post, please do, so that we'll have an idea of how many people will be showing up.

Sadly, I am working the election that day, 7am-9pm, so will be completely bagged and out of commission. Have fun, y'all!

I don't think there is. I suggested just having people bring a bag of ice each, since we always end up with way too much.
