BrewNosers Summer Beerfest?
Any interest? Hoptoberfest is great and all, but wouldn't it be nice to get together for a Summer version of this... Anyone?

I have floated this idea before, but I was thinking more towards May/early June. But there's nothing stopping a summer BBQ either.

That time of the year works for me too. I was just thinking something a little warmer than September/October.mr x wrote:I have floated this idea before, but I was thinking more towards May/early June. But there's nothing stopping a summer BBQ either.

Big Strange Brew is in June every year. It is held on the Saint John River in Kars, NB.

Re: BrewNosers Summer Beerfest?
I really enjoyed the BBQ at John and Anita's in late July. A beautiful bike ride out too! I won't be able to host anything until I finish school, but if someone is able to host a nice summer BBQ I'll bring some beer & food. The idea of everyone brewing as happens at BSB seems fun too, though I imagine space would get tight if it's in someone's backyard.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I have a pretty big yard, and live on a lake. We could do something here, though it is kind of early to start planning now...

May/June would be OK, but it must not interfere with BSBNB. If you haven't been, you should try to get there next year. Had a great time (it didn't hurt that in a cold and wet Spring and Summer, that June weekend was gorgeous).
A Summer BBQ at John and Anita's sounds good to me, but the bike ride is a little too much this year.
My place is also available - but it's a lot further out than Nick's (Keggermeister).

Still, anyone who rides out to our current place gets free beer and food.

I was still mulling over trying to do something in NS along the lines of BSBNB, we we approached by the south shore guys a while back. Might be time to rekindle that idea.

Re: BrewNosers Summer Beerfest?
I got tired of trying to coax replies out of the south shore guy so I gave up. I concluded he's not the sort of person I'd want to organize an event with.
We've worked Hoptoberfest into an annual tradition for the fall and many of us go to BSBNB in the spring so let's try to work in another regular event that doesn't happen too close to either of those. We've had the Real Ale Festival in the summer and the Christmas contest in December and want to do a learn to brew day too so there's no shortage of ideas.

My vote is for anything that involves drinking (and possibly making) beer, on a warm, sunny day!

Re: BrewNosers Summer Beerfest?
I love the idea of a quarterly big get-together, sort of as outreach.
A spring thaw in April/May
Summer: Real Ale fest?
Fall: Hoptoberfest and Learn to Homebrew meet-up
Winter: XMas party and group brew for the Garrison comp?
That leaves room in between for the BSBNB in June.

I concure, more big get-togethers sound great to me. Only one 'real' annual event makes it tough to get out and socialize with the group if a person happens to be busy that weekend (me at the last Hoptoberfest).
More excuses to drink great beer and eat great food is always a good thing!

A lager event in early May might work, but it's still a little cool outside....

A lager event in the spring sounds timely. My basement is the right temperature for lagering in the winter so the beer should be ready by spring.

I fully support this idea. IMO those of us not in HRM have a better excuse to make it out to big events and are more likely to interact with more members then if we just car-pool to a tasting (although that is fun too and I will continue to try to make that happen).

That could be fun, I haven't been to any of the events yet. I do make a lot of lager every winter though, so I'll be ready.
