My mother said it to me when I was telling her about something the other week on the phone that was pissing me off … in an understanding, commiserative and slightly dismissive tone … “life isn’t all beer and skittles Mark” after she said that, I understood, it was life, that’s all, settled, end of discussion.
Skittles is ninepins, the precursor to 10-pin bowling, it was a popular English pub game.
