National Homebrew Day - May 4, 2014
Every year, the American Homebrew Association encourages homebrew clubs to brew on the first Saturday of May, to celebrate the day that homebrewing was made legal in the US. While we're not in the US, it is a nice excuse to get together for a brew day. We've taken part previously, and I'd like to do the same this year. Anyone interested? There are some suggested recipes, winning recipes from the NHC, however we can brew whatever the heck we want.
So, anyone interested in hosting and/or brewing for it? I know there were a couple of folks interested in hosting events when the weather improved (and on a weekend), this might be a good excuse. In the past, we've had 5-10 members come out for these, with a few of us brewing. Let's try and best that number! (I can host if no one else can)

I'd like to brew again. Even have an immersion chiller to use! The suggested recipes arent what I'm looking to brew, might do a nice Vienna lager, or maybe a hopped up freezer cleaner mild.

It's been a good time for a few years I'd be up fod attending and maybe brewing depending on style, I'd love to see a full ebiab build but that's unlikely

One of these years I'd love to host (was hoping to this year), but it conflicts with my schedule again.

I should be good to attend, or possibly host (need to clear it with the Mrs.) Is anyone doing a full batch single vessel BIAB? I'd honnestly like to witness a batch before brewing on my new setup.

I can host, but would need to kick everyone out by 5pm. If no one else is able to host, I'm fine with it. I'm in Spryfield. Start at 10am would work, I think.

My beer will probably be an electric turkey-fryer BIAB. Haven't really thought about what to brew, though...

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

For those interested in taking part (hosting or dropping by), would Sunday May 4 work OK? Now that the Grain Pickup has been delayed until the 3rd, it will interfere with the brewday. Or, if someone besides me wanted to host on the 3rd, they are welcome to take over.

OK, so May 4th is this Sunday, and I haven't heard much interest, except from C.A. Should I still go through with this? Are people going to drop by? Please post your intentions so I know how/if to proceed.

I won't be able to attend. I'm hard into the renovations as I need to get the house fixed up by June 7th.

Chris and I discussed this this morning, we are going to cancel this brew day. We weren't seeing a whole lot of interest. One or both of us will likely organize one in a couple weeks time!

Good idea. It's a great day, but the timing is a bit off this weekend.
