BN Softball Game - crash and burn...

Post by Jayme » Wed Aug 20, 2014 1:09 pm

I was thinking the other day it might be fun to organize a day of beer-ball. I think potentially a good time would be the morning/afternoon of Hoptoberfest, since a number of people who are from out of town will be around. I'll put a poll at the end of this for interested parties to fill out. Here are some thoughts:

-to keep it free, don't book a field but rather show up and hope something is available in the commons or another near by field (I usually only notice teams playing there later in the day/evening).
-follow the typical rec league rules (https://halifaxsport.ca/register/more/10#rules), namely you pitch to your own team and have a rover in the outfield.
-group teams based on perceived skill level to try and keep things balanced (see poll - https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/69YQGY3)

I can post interested parties here (please fill out the above survey):
1) Jayme
2) Liverdance
3) Chalmers
4) Tim Gregory
5) amartin (maybe +1?)
6) Brenna (Jayme's girlfriend)

Maybe:
7) Gavin
8) bluenose
9) benwedge
10) jtmwhyte

I'll play, hoptoberfest sounds like a perfect day for it
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Good chance I'd be available, but I'm far from athletically inclined and I'm scared of flying objects that move really fast.

I filled out the poll but there wasn't anywhere to put my name so i'm not sure how you plan on tracking who's who

I thought of that right after you filled it in... haha. Luckily you were the first, so I added a question to fill in 'forum name' and put yours in. So should be ok now... I think this is the first survey I've ever created so hopefully I don't completely fuck it up!

That sounds fun. I can't commit to anything at this point (mom in town that week), but I should know in a few weeks. I have a glove, but no other equipment, and would probably be bringing my brother along, because he'll also be coming to hoptoberfest.

Good start! We've got 6 maybe 7 thus far. 14 is workable, 18 (or more) is ideal. Gavin is a maybe - might be out of town that weekend.

I'm interested. I'm awaiting confirmation on another event that is either the weekend of the 12th or weekend of the 19th, which could cause me to miss both.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -

I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

BBQ competition is the 20th, so I'm out for softball (but still a late arrival for Hoptoberfest!)

Probably goes without saying, but it would appear this is a no-go... Maybe I'll try and organize something for the spring on a day that is not already filled with drinking.
