barley stills and mash workshop

The micro-brewing industry in Atlantic Canada is exploding. In NS alone, craft breweries accounted for over $4 million in sales at NSLC outlets in 2013-14 (Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation), and it’s estimated that over 200 jobs have been created within this sector.

This workshop has been developed for craft/micro-brewers, and those associated with this fast-growing industry in the Atlantic Region. We have assembled local, national and international industry practitioners, along with regulators, specialists, researchers, hops-growers, critics and others passionate about growing this sector. Along with several keynote presentations, panel discussions, and a researcher-company connector event, there will be plenty of time to network with fellow brew masters and beer aficionados. The day is capped off with a networking social, including a beer-tasting event, and we invite you to join us in sharing your very best at this event.

This event is sponsored by Acadia University, Springboard Atlantic, Atlantic Wine Institute, Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, and NSERC.

No word on the speakers though last time I checked....
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Taking out the Stills, was probably an early name, but someone probably pointed out the them that Stills/stills would be confusing. No distillery talk this time, I believe.

Any idea on ticket prices? When you click "get tickets" you have to fill in a whack of info before they'll give you any pricing...

Tickets are free! I'm just trying to confirm that homebrewers are invited. I do know that those looking to open breweries, or current commercial brewers, are definitely invited.

Subject: registration open for Craft Brewers Workshop @ AcadiaU

Good Day,

I am pleased to announce that registration is open for Barley, Hops & Mash: A Workshop for Craft Brewers at Acadia University on Friday, October 24th, 2014.

Registration link:
https://barleyhopsmash.splashthat.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please note: If you would like to take part in the “show & share” beer tasting event, which will take place at the social following the workshop (from 5-7pm),
Nova Scotia breweries will need to get a sample & sell permit through the NSLC by contacting Carol Andrews Carol.Andrews@mynslc.com
Breweries from NB, PEI & NFLD must be registered with the NSLC through a recognized agent and that agent would contact Carol Andrews for
the sample permit.

Cheers!

Gillian Mainguy

So, anyone going to this? I see a few of the NS breweries chimed in on twitter that they'd be attending. I'm tempted, just need to work on logistics. IE, getting home safe if I stay for the social.

Ps. Second keynote speaker has changed, now president of Smuttynose from NH. That's kinda a big deal.

I was thinking about it, but decided not to for a variety of reasons.

I'd love to go, but can't afford to take the day off work. I wonder if they'd let me go to the social.

Chris, Sandy and co. You are welcome to stay at my place in Wolfville if you want, although no offense Sandy if you are planning a romantic weekend with your wife. The Blomidon Inn is nice for that, you could sit by a log fire in your room with a brandy and a cigar. Failing that, I have a pellet stove and some home brew.

I'm going to the morning session, have to work in the afternoon. I think I am going to the social in the evening too. Anyone else going to be there tomorrow? sounds like just Kirsten, Steffen & I so far.

Thanks for alerting us about this Peter.

Not sure if it's all the beer talking. But what is the date and are there any openings? If it's a week day and I can attend, I'm feeling kind of ill. I wonder if I could get a letter of sorts excusing my absense lol. :cheers2:

I sent you a pm Chris, there may be parking in the side roads by the university, but anyone is free to park at my place. It's right across the road from the university. email me a phone# and I can call you back with directions.
