Re: December 2016 BJCP Tasting Exam
Some words from the peanut gallery: It may help to set up a shared spreadsheet so people can suggest dates and put in days that they're busy (leading a weekly scout meeting, etc). An easy suggestion would be the 4th Tuesday of the month, offsetting the regular meeting by a couple of weeks. Or the third Friday, etc. Also, some people interested are not regular readers/contributors to the forums, so it may be easier to connect with everyone.
Also, we may need to collect deposits for those on the list. There were several drop-outs the last time around, which was frustrating to those who could have been studying along the way. Also, the BJCP is not-for-profit, and the exam fee is used to pay for the beer, and flying in a second National-ranked judge to sit the exam. At $35, it's not breaking the bank, and helps solidify your intention.
OK, not only the peanut gallery, I look forward to partaking in the judging training to help newbies, and hone my own skills.

There's a distinct possibility I won't be around come December, but I'll throw my name in as well.

If anyone in NB is looking to do some tasting sessions for this in the summer i'm game and can host in the Saint John area. Maybe i can convince one of the local judges to assist.

The Saint John group has been growing over the past few years. We could probably get 6 or 8 keen on doing some palate training!

Unfortunately I have to drop out.
Moving to Winnipeg this summer and likely will not have the funds for a trip back to Halifax come December.

Re: December 11, 2016 BJCP Tasting Exam
Hi folks, just a word on logistics: The BJCP exam is happening Sunday, December 11th. Exact date and time TBD, but please be sure that you will be in Halifax and available on that date. From the past couple, it usually starts late morning, and will go until mid-afternoon.
For those in HRM, is it time to create a spreadsheet and start scheduling some tasting meetups? If we get on a regular schedule, it will make it easier for those not in town to make a plan to make it in for one or two, as the more the merrier. Anyone want to drive this one?
And remember that you must first pass the online exam before you can sit the tasting exam. Please do so earlier rather than later. Proof of that will be required to start the exam.
More info here: http://www.bjcp.org/examcenter.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I might be able to start hosting/organizing bi-weekly sessions later in the summer, so long as the group size won't be tooooo big for the apartment.

Re: December 2016 BJCP Tasting Exam: Sunday, Dec 11
How quickly time flies!! It is now less than 4 months to the Tasting Exam, and so it's probably time for folks who were serious about taking part to take their online exam, and for a study group to be formed. I've created a Google Doc with the names and emails of everyone who has expressed interest here. I've shared it with everyone, based on the email address I have for you. If you haven't received an invite, please let me know.
Andrew M and Andrew N, I do not have the addresses of your other interested parties, please edit them on the sheet so they can be added.
To be fair for those folks who are on the waitlist, I think a payment deadline should be implemented. I'll leave that up to Brewnoser, or the wisdom of crowds.
I travel too much for work, and am therefore unable to organize a schedule of study groups. Can someone step up to initiate? As a humble suggestion, would be nice to share the bottle list before or after, so that those who were unable to attend would be able to (possibly, based on availability in their area) could drink the same beer, and could compare notes.
Next steps:
Visit http://www.bjcp.org/examcenter.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Check the "Studying for the Beer Judge Exam" part, and download all of those documents. Learn about the BJCP, the Style Guidelines, and judging in general.
Take the Online Exam.
Drink a beer to celebrate your passing it, while updating the spreadsheet.
Keep drinking, while thinking about what you're drinking in terms of the Scoresheet. Get used to writing for 2 hours at a time, break out the thesaurus for new ways to say "aromas of..."

ps. Let me know via EMAIL if you are a soon-to-be BJCP member and would be interested in volunteering at the Big Spruce Home Brew Challenge, happening November 27th. I could use some help before and during the event, and you will receive BJCP points, which are used to advance your ranking.

OK, times up. Apologies if you've been missed, but I think it's only fair for those on the wait list who are looking to solidify their plans.
There is an exam scheduled for Dec 2017, and you two can go to the top of the list. (And that goes for anyone else interested in waiting till then. EMAIL ME)
