Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
Alright, June 2-4 (Thurs-Sat) is looking good. It will likely be a multi day affair again so if you can't make it to one hopefully you can make it to another.

June 2-4 works for me, the remainder of June is already booked though. Looks like I'm still in.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
Here it is:
To make the poster sponsors had to be in the top two tiers and have sponsored last year. This helped make things more structured this year. Big thanks to the five major sponsors.
Still looking for someone to step in as Registrar. In the meantime, would someone like to volunteer to pass this poster around to the clubs across the country? Plus anywhere else you think it should be posted.

Nice catch. I'll update that.
It is three bottle this year. I know we discussed this last year but the competition is extremely difficult to run with two bottles each.
Of course, if you only submit one or two bottles we won't disqualify you, it just will have less chance to make it to a medal round.

Good to know. I've got 3 entries ready with only 2 bottles and no more beer.anewton wrote:MitchK wrote:how many bottles do you have to drop off?

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
well, I've already got one beer I want to enter (just letting it age and continue to bottle condition then will move the whole batch to cold storage once it hits where I want it) and will try to brew up a storm over the next two months to get some other categories down.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
I am in the same boat as Keith - have two bottles of a few beers that I have been saving for the competition and the rest of the batch is gone! In any case, I care mostly about the feedback from the judges and two bottles will be enough to get that.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
Gonna be my second competition. First one was the Garrison one recently so really looking forward to entering a few. I'm hoping you end up doing it in early June. I forgot about this until last weekend and will be brewing a couple beers that I'll be entering.
Did anyone come up with a date yet?

Going to post it in the competition section. We'll keep this one for organization, and that one for entrant discussion. That way judges don't inadverdently see too much info.

Has anyone stepped up as Registrar? Dare I ask what would be involved?

The Registrar position is still open. You would liaise with all of the entrants. Answer their questions, etc. Work with the Cellarmaster and let people know if their entries arrived broken. Scan scoresheets during the competition and email them out once the results have been announced. Work with me to make sure the prizes are sent out.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
After discussing things with my team i'm sorry to announce that the homebrew competition will not be happening this year.
Response from potential sponsors has been pretty weak this year. We're over $2000 short with 26 categories lacking prizes. Entry has been pretty slow too.
I'll be contacting our sponsors and entrants soon to let them know.

Is it really necessary to have prizes for every style? I don't think other competitions go crazy with the prizes.

FWIW, I've never entered a competition with any concern for prizes. They're a bonus.

Is there no way to just have it postponed while issues are worked out? I also care very little about prizes.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
It's not uncommon to have to postpone a competition. It happened to a couple last year i sent beer to. If that would help maybe its worthwhile.

Re: Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016
A national competition (which this was) has to meet certain expectations such as medals and prizes. But this was cancelled because of more than just a lack of prizes. As I said above, my team and I discussed it before the announcement and sponsorship as a whole was low, as was registration.
I realize most people are in it for the feedback, so I believe it would be worthwhile planning for a smaller competition some time later. Maybe Brewnosers only, with a small prize for BOS.
