Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016

Evening All, it's that time again.
The Brewnosers' Homebrew Competition 2016 planning is underway and letters are going out to sponsors this month.
We learned a lot from last years' comp, and this year's will be bigger, smoother, and all around better.
Comp is tentatively set for early May, and will not conflict with Mother's Day, Craft Beer Week Full House party, or Victoria Day weekend.
So who's interested in helping out? Right now there are a few key positions that need to be filled for the early planning, and then about a week before the competition there is a whole lot more work to be done. Tell me what you're good at!

Depending on the weekend I'm tentative to steward.

I would like to help plan. I have time during the day sometimes that could go toward this.

I would love to help in anyway you guys need. I have ample free time and experience helping plan/run competitions in the past.

As part of our prep for the competition I'd like to use one of Sandy's ideas.
I'd like to plan a day/evening for a small practice run. People interested in stewarding can see it before the big day, and we can use the time to train current and prospective judges.
Anytime we can get together and openly discuss beer perceptions is to our benefit, plus we can probably try out a few spiked beers for the major off flavours.
I'd like to plan for this one month before the competition, so early April. Who'd like to take this one on?

April is a long way away but I could team up with Derek, Lucas or one of the other regulars. and pull something off.

I'm keen to judge again. Not sure i'll have any extra time to help out much on the prep side, but if there are any small tasks that need an extra hand, I can probably help out. I'll be knee deep in brewing for my wedding around that time so just don't want to over commit.

Good idea - I'm sure we can work something out as we get closer.

I should be good to judge this year and can probably help out with some other things.

I'm game to help with this too. I can probably help out with a few other things before the competition as well. Let me know what you need.

Thanks guys, glad to have your support. For the most part the judges are limited in what they can do to help without disqualifying themselves.

Are we looking for suggestions?
Everything went really well last year (speaking as an entrant)...the only hiccup that seems to cause inconsistencies were the sponsor prizes (some winners didn't get anything until like 6 months later). Most sponsor were great, and very quick to send out prizes...where others didn't seem interested in sending them out in a timely manner
May I suggest that the sponsors should be required to send all swag/prizes to the judges before the comp? and then the organizers send out to the winners? I understand this is how they handle it in other comps. just my 2cents

Or never got anything at all.

I think this is an excellent idea and I'm not surprised to hear other competitions do it this way.

When will the 2016 entry page be online? I'd like to start adding my beers as they are ready.

Are there still people who received nothing? Arg!
The reason why the shipping was left to the sponsors was to save us the shipping costs. While that did happen (well, apparently not all of them!), the timeliness of the shipping out to many of the winners is troubling.

Given that there has been no official announcement or chatter on the forum for entries, deadlines, judging dates, etc. is this a dead issue this year? BOTY website lists the entry deadline at May 15, 2016. Unfortunately, I wan't be able to help out if this is still planned for any time in May.

I was thinking the same thing. Someone needs to poke Andrew to see what's happening.
Edit: just messaged him.

Thanks Tim for the nudge!
We are changing things this year so that we collect the prizes and mail them out directly. This should fix that issue. As for those who didn't receive prizes last year all I can offer is free entry this year and promise it won't happen again this year.
I'm finishing up a poster this afternoon. Just needed confirmation from one final sponsor.
I'm looking for a registrar to be responsible for all entrants and returning the sheets. Sandy are you, or anyone else, interested? First task will be to email out the poster.
Question for you all: would anyone oppose a competition early June? May is very busy for a lot of people. The week after the May long weekend would be much easier, and gives brewers another few weeks to prepare.
Edit: I'd like to see Sandy's Judge Practice/Steward Training Session happen before May. Do we have a location yet?
Andrew

Early June is busy for me, so depending on exact dates, I may have to drop out from judging.

I can't do the weekend of the 11th-12th of June. Everything else is fair game.
