Homebrew Review Spring 2016

Post by amartin » Wed May 18, 2016 11:54 am

Hey everyone. Based on some of the comments made after the competition was cancelled, it looked like a lot of you were in it more for the feedback than the competition or prizes, so we’re going to have a homebrew review on June 4. Hopefully you haven’t drank all of your entries yet. We’re going to set a limit of 30 entries, and a starting limit of one entry per brewer. I’ll give it a week to let everybody interested get something in, and if we haven’t hit 30 entries by then I’ll lift the one entry per brewer limit. The sign up order will just be done by posting in this thread, and there will be an entry fee of $2 to cover the cost of supplies. Noble Grape Oxford St. has graciously allowed us to use their store as a drop off point. My house in Hammonds Plains can be a drop off point too, for anyone who might find that more convenient. PM me for the address.

Just to reiterate, this is a homebrew review, not a competition. The goal is to provide feedback and also judging experience for some of the new judges writing the exam in December. We will have a best of show round at the end, but there won’t be prizes or medals, just bragging rights.

I sent emails and pms to some of the judges and people writing the BJCP exam for the first time in December, but I’m sure I missed people. If you want to take part in this as a judge, please pm me. We could use a few stewards as well.

I don't think I'll have anything BJCP ready at this point, I dropped a bunch of brewing plans when I heard the brewnosers comp was cancelled.

Thanks for the interest guys, but please don't tell us what you're entering. With a smaller field you may be entering the only beer in a category and it's hard to judge blind when you know who the brewer is (and even harder when you know them personally).

Thanks for doing this. Do we just print the registration form and bring it with the beer or is there an electronic option?

Andrew: Did you lock down the space for judging that you had mentioned?
Also, count me in!

Mike - we don't have an electronic option, this is a pretty casual thing. Just attach the registration form to your beers.

Shean - Yes, Adam (CartoonCod) was able to get his apartment's events room for us.

Hey everyone,

So, we're only at six entries so far, so I don't think we're in any danger of hitting the 30 entry mark. If you want to enter more than one, go for it.

I have two entries ready...should I email or just print them off and drop them off with the beer?

I have lots of beer ready...but will only send two to keep space open for others...if there's room I can send more

You can just attach the entry forms to the beers when you drop them off. I'll put you down for two for now, but it looks like there should be plenty of room for more.

I have two that I'd like feedback on, count me in. I've never submitted anything so this sounds like a good opportunity to get some feedback.

When do we have to drop these off by? I might be cutting this close with one of mine.

I have two for sure but possibly three or four if there is space. Maybe I will drop two off tomorrow and hold off until next week to see if space is still available for the remaining ones? Noble Grape Oxford is right on my commute to school so two visits is not a problem for me.

I've got a second one and, depending on the cutoff date, potentially a third.

I may have missed it...was it just the 1 bottle of each that needed to be sent in?

Kevin

They may still need Stewards. It's a glorified waiter but there is some protocol to it. If I was available I'd be there.
