Propane Burner
Found this on Kijiji. Don't know if it's a good deal or a good rig. Brought to you from the Straits of Belle Isle.

Re: Propane Burner
Looks like the same burner I have from a 30qt turkey frier set at CT. Using it for 5 gallon BIAB batches in a 58L keggle. Guessing that's its limit.

It looks pretty rusted too. I need one sometime, but I think I'll pass.

Re: Propane Burner
I picked one of these up from the guy for $60 on monday: http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell ... Z375812991" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He had 4 left when I was there. He claimed to be buying the same ones from a supplier from burnside for $200+ for a lobster boil business. I don't know if I buy it, but it's a pretty nice rig for the price. The legs and frame are really stable and the burner seems to push off a ton of heat, even with a really low flow. I expect to save 50% on propane per brew
I'm also comparing this to my old shitbucket burner than had it's legs bend from holding my keggle... YMMV

Re: Propane Burner
I'm going to be listing mine on here this weekend. It's a long story but I'm planning to move to Toronto in May and it's a hassle to brew in my current apartment, so I may as well sell it. It's this one, but the cage thing for the turkey (some use it for leaf hops) is on PEI - I can have that brought over next week. I'm thinking $75, it's been used five or six times. If you're interested in it, let me know. I'll post pics tomorrow.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Re: Propane Burner
It looks like a step up from mine (mine's similar but older and rusted), but I'm looking for something that can handle a keggle or large pot for 12 gallon batches. I'd like one of those nice bayou ones, but for budget reasons I'll probably settle with the one they have at Kent for $59.99. Unless of course, that's the one ryantr0n's talking about that bent under a keggle.

Re: Propane Burner
I bought mine from Kent (for a bout the same $) and it holds my keggle fine.

How long does it take to bring a batch to a boil after the sparge?

dunno, I never really time it... a regular brewday is about 5 hours, including clean-up.

For those looking for a Bayou, check this site out...I ordered my bayou burners for my stand from them. Prices are good and the shipping includes all brokerage/duties etc so there are no unexpected fees upon receipt!

I looked at those, and they look pretty sweet. I may upgrade to something like that in a year or two, but they're just not in the budget.

Re: Propane Burner
I've got the stainless steel bayou classic and it works great.

I paid $89 for it from Bryan at Innovation Home Brewing and it's been worth every penny. I brewed today and it took 23 minutes to bring 6 gallons of wort up to a boil from 160F. Not really sure how that compares to other burners.

I don't have that stand, but it looks like the same burner as the one I used the stand I built. I've got no complaints about themcanuck wrote:I've got the stainless steel bayou classic and it works great.

Re: Propane Burner
^ Yep, definitely looks like the same burner......which is the BG-12.
Btw, great looking stand you've got there. You built that yourself? I've been really wanting a brewing stand as well. I'd much rather have a single tier stand, but I have don't have the skills or the tools for building one.
I've been looking at building a 3 tier gravity fed system but haven't really come across a decent design yet. I still want a single tier though.

It's not that hard to do if you can find someone with a welder. I had a couple buddies help me, none of us welders and we pounded it out in a few nights over some beer.canuck wrote:^ Yep, definitely looks like the same burner......which is the BG-12.

To be honest though, I'd be happy with a single burner turkey fryer stand now. I built this one before I had ever brewed all-grain and didn't really know what I needed. I've got 3 kegs, all setup for their intended uses (HLT, MLT, and BK) but only use one of them since switching to BIAB.
I'm sure there WILL be a time I feel like putting the stand and all 3 kegs to use, but for 99% of my brews the BIAB method works and is a lot less of a headache!
