Need Some Detectiving

Post by bluenose » Fri Nov 21, 2014 1:51 am

So a minority of you might know that I have a couple of rental units in Pictou County. I have an ad out for an apartment that I have available and I think I`ve been targeted by a scammer. That in and of itself is not my concern, but I think this scammer has stolen someone`s identity and I`d like to make an attempt to notify the victim if I can, since he`s a member of the armed forces (and I hope not deceased). So I could use the help of you scholarly folks.

Here`s a picture the alleged scammer provided of themself (claiming they`re the man on the right):

So, I`m hoping someone can tell me the branch and unit of the uniform he`s wearing and identify the beer he`s holding

Bonus points if you can get me the name and number of the blonde in the background, but that`s secondary (you know I can NEVER be serious 100% of the time).

Let`s get this SumBitch :rockin:

The beer looks like Tecate to me and I'd say that's an American military uniform.

The uniform smells of WWII re-enactment. The blue patch seems to read "SCOTS..." And his buddy, has a completely different coloured tie on.......

There are no name patches. And one of those medals looks to be the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal. I knew it looked familiar. The yellow one I can't seem to make out.

I've mainly given up on this as it would take too much time

It`s 100% Tennants, and I believe that is a UK unifrom. They have many for the army depending on the unit.

gm- just beat me to it, but I came to the same conclusion.

A little Google sleuthing suggests the following:
  • Those are FA ("Future Army Dress") No. 2 Uniforms, current in the UK (the scalloped cut to the breast pockets was the tip-off vs. older uniforms)
  • The white belt marks them as Parade Uniforms
  • The button pattern being in threes along with the blue/yellow shoulder patch suggests Scots Guards
I'd say that's the same uniforms that you'll see in this picture here.

I do find it odd that the tie colors don't seem to match, but it appears the khaki tie on the gentleman on the right is consistent with the pre-FAD uniform and the greenish tie on the gentleman on the left is consistent with the new FAD uniform. It may be that the previous tie is considered acceptable or was acceptable during a cross-over period (FAD is still being rolled out).

Nope and if he was claiming US army he didn't try very hard, their chevrons face up not down.

What a f--king dick! (Can I swear here?) He's wearing a British army uniform, claiming to be a US army soldier, trying to live in Canada... I say kick him out of our country, we don't need him!

I'm wondering if the picture is of a real soldier and this guy just isn't the one pictured?!

Edit: By the way, the medals are the Iraq Medal (2003) and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
