This. I rarely touch a torrent. There's a significant speed increase with other options as well.
I agree. Some of the legalities around VPNs/proxy services are sketchy as well. At the end of the day, if you're willing to fork out money to a sudo-legal service, why not just pay for the content legitimately instead. That's the only way to truly squash the possibility of litigation.

I got 3 in one night for the same thing... My girlfriend was busting a gut as I read the titles out loud, asking the roomie if he downloaded them, and him denying having anything to do with it. Priceless.

I will say it's a pretty good tactic to get some people to stop downloading pirated porn though... lol. embarrass the fuck outta them when their spose, or worse yet kid, gets the ISP pop up...

I got one while downloading from a service I subscribe to so obviously didn't take it seriously at all. If it was legit then their screening methods aren't very sophisticated and the whole thing could backfire if they piss off their customers, who may no longer see a point in being honest.

You got it while downloading legally or the notice actually said it was for a service you pay for? When the notices come is not related to what your doing.
