where to get cheap stereo cable

Post by CorneliusAlphonse » Sun Mar 18, 2012 4:16 pm

I was tired of replacing headphones when the cable inevit ably broke, so the last pair has a stereo jack on it and just uses a standard cable with audio jack on both ends. The cable broke inside right at the jack, so I need to get either a new cable or a couple jacks... I figure it's probably not much difference in price. anyone know where I can get one or a few for not too many doll hairs?

Princess auto has a good assortment of low and medium quality cables.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Another vote for monoprice here. Cheap, good quality gear.

hmm, it's usually hard to get there as I don't have reliable car access.. but since I'll be in that neighborhood next weekend, maybe I'll check before ordering from monoprice. 6 feet is a little long for headphones.

Same here. My order was shipped via USPS and arrived with no duty. It's quite possible that it depends on the size of the package and how they declare the contents.

It's been my experience that paying duty is a system that has a well defined and complex set of rules that occasionally are followed, lol.

You shouldn't have to pay duty (or you should, but it's probably zero or close to it) but you're liable for brokerage and GST. If you can get it shipped USPS, the brokerage will be no more than $7 (iirc) and GST is often ignored.

The thing that dings you most often with cross-border shipping is the brokerage fees, which if it comes via courier can be completely outrageous (and are intentionally targeted at the small shipments) and you have no legal recourse except to pay them.

I don't believe USPS/Canada Post charges brokerage fees. Just duty and tax.

Canada Post charges $5 flat rate to handle anything that requires duties or taxes.

Good to know. I've been lucky enough to avoid that up to this point.

I've never had brokerage fees from USPS either. It's UPS that imposes these ridiculous broker fees.

That $5 charge they might hit you with is their brokerage fee. It's hit and miss, though, and mostly miss.
