I know we're maybe not an uber fitness kinda club, but I was wondering if we (Brewnosers) might be able to get a team together for the Team in Training Bluenose Marathon Fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
It's a pretty cool setup - teams are at least 5 people, and the fundraising commitment is $1,500 per person - might seem a lot now, but if we work together it can be done. And some of you probably have access to rich friends, right? Or we could sell beer.
And no, you don't have to run the marathon. You can walk or run, and do the 10 K, 21.1 half, or the full marathon. It would be kinda cool to have our logo on everyone's shirts, which is what they do with all "corporate" teams, and there is professional training provided to help any runners reach their goal.
For sure, if, on the off chance, you've ever wanted to actually run a half or full marathon, this is the best way to do it. They really know what they are doing.
There should be a couple decent parties too.
Maybe the organization you work for has done this, I am pretty sure no homebrew club ever has.
If you think you'd be interested in trying to be our "onsite" organizer, a team captain, let me know. There's an early morning breakfast at the Delta on the 13th to go over what's involved more thoroughly, and I'd get an invite to you.
Also, if you think your place of work might make a better team (better than a bunch of semi drunk homebrewers trying to walk 42 km?) let me know if you, or someone there might be interested in being a team captain.
In the meantime, you can check this out at http://www.teamintraining.ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This type of cancer is that one where we see all the sick kids, but it also has affected some of my close adult friends. The good news is that it's also one where the war is being slowly won. They get results, and I figured if I was going to volunteer my time it should be with one of these organizations that is properly organized. And this one is. Your efforts don't go to waste. I have friends still here because of the efforts of this organization.
No big deal if you think it's a bad fit. But it could be a lot of fun.
I think I will walk the full marathon and see if I can drink a case of beer while doing so. Maybe Propeller can sponsor me.
If you think it's a bad idea to have our own team, I'll assume you think it's a good idea to sponsor me if I decide to go.
Jeff
