That was a pretty wild knockout. Curious to see if Mayweather will finally step up and fight Pacquiao now.

That was the best boxing match I've seen in a long, long time. Awesome.

I have to wonder if it's too little too late for mainstream boxing though; if it's enough to stop boxing's popularity slide.

Have to download when I get home. I've always believed that in order for boxing to stay relevant in this MMA world, it has to somehow get away from the PPV model and make it back to network/cable TV to get back into our cultural sports consciousness. I'm sure PPV has made a lot of people/networks big money over the years, but I'll wager it's been a major factor in the marginalization boxing in the last 20+ years.

Completely agree. A few years ago, I remember paying to watch a boxing PPV at a pub, I think it was $15/piece to get in and the fight was over in the first round. They need to take a look at the model that the UFC uses—free preliminary fights on network TV that get people hooked and make them want to pay for the PPV.

There's lots of boxing on Showtime/HBO that isn't PPV. Great card this weekend. But you aren't going to get the big events in either sport outside of PPV. In fact, I can list a number of boxing cards that were on cable that were far better than some of the UFC PPVs I've seen.

I think a big part of it is advertising. I never heard anything about this fight until I was on an MMA website and noticed they planned on posting the play-by-play.

Myself, I'm no longer interested in boxing. I don't mind watching a good fight but it just seems so 1 dimensional as compared to MMA. I think it's a combination of poor promotion, lack of interesting fights, and MMA just taking over. I'll probably never go back to "watching" boxing, though I'll download a fight if I hear it was a good one.

I think we're going to see more and more good MMA cards on network tv. The UFC event Saturday night was a stacked card. Probably better than lot of PPVs I've seen in the last six months.

And what a coincidence they do a free event on the same night?! Cheeky buggers.

Indeed. Though they usually time them to complement the boxing show. They definitely know their audience.
