... If you live on the west coast of Canada or the United States, you’re pretty much already screwed at this point thanks to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami of 2011. Radiation levels are already increasing in the food and water, babies born with thyroid issues linked to radiation are rising quickly and governments in Canada and the United States are raising the “acceptable levels” of certain toxic substances in the food being shipped in from Japan. This isn’t a conspiracy theory, this is happening and it’s happening right now.
The fancy little picture at the top of the article isn’t showing you the flow of happy fun time thoughts from Japan back in March of 2012, it’s showing you the flow of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant after the devastating earthquake and tsunami of 2011.
Samples of milk taken across the United States have shown radiation at levels 2000 percent higher than EPA maximums. The reason that milk is so significant is that it is representative of the entire food supply.
According to an article published on Natural News, “Cows consume grass and are exposed to the same elements as food crops and water supplies. In other words, when cows’ milk starts testing positive for high levels of radioactive elements, this is indicative of radioactive contamination of the entire food supply.” The Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Deception Protection Agency, instead of refusing to prohibit the sale of tainted foods and mandatory testing of foods produced and harvested from the Pacific Coast, have simply raised the “acceptable levels” of radioactive material in foods.
If that doesn’t scare the ever-living crap out of you, then take a look at the list of foods you are now supposed to be wary of, you know, for only the next 30,000 years.
How can we protect ourselves? First, be aware of what items are likely to be highly tainted.
1.) SEAFOOD: Question the origin of ALL seafood. Fish and crustaceans from the Pacific Ocean should all be considered to be poisoned with radiation.
2.) WATER: The rainfall and snowfall are all radiated. Do not drink any water that has not been filtered. The tap water that flows from your faucet has NOT been treated to rid it of radioactive particles. A recent report from the NY Times stated, “A rooftop water monitoring program managed by UC Berkeley’s Department of Nuclear Engineering detected substantial spikes in rain-borne iodine-131 during torrential downpours …
3.) DAIRY PRODUCTS: Milk and milk products from the West Coast states currently have the highest levels of radiation in North America.
4.) PRODUCE: Leafy Vegetables, Wines, Tomatoes, Strawberries….all produce from California or any other West Coast State are also likely to be tainted.
5.) MEAT: If an animal eats any leafy vegetable all along the West Coast, that animal has consumed radiation and is poisoned. This is any animal from cows, pigs, goats, sheep to wild deer and other game. If you eat the above foods from areas with high radiation levels, you are eating radiation and feeding it to your children. Slowly the radiation levels within your body will build up.

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on that article.
No primary sources, and based on the other articles on that site, they've got a serious bias against reality.

Agreed. I read an article last week about how they caught some radioactive blue-fin Tuna on the west coast though

Oh yes, it's out there, and there's more coming. Look at this:

Apparently, those tanks are bolted together.

Yes, I doubt a lot of the 'facts' too. I did read the Tuna article and a couple other articles on BBC - the whole Fukushima/TEPCO situation is a mess and the reactor pumped over 300 tons of radioactive water into the ocean.
I'm avoiding any pacific seafood, until I see some hard facts that its actually safe to eat.

Their 'solutions' are scary as well. The underground frozen barrier is a recipe for failure, and they are still planning to resettle the residents there because the country is so crowded.

When I first heard about that on the news I actually thought it was a joke… Sounds like some shit out of James Bond or something!

It's been used in mining, but on a much smaller scale. It sounds insane on this scale, and for this application.

I can't imagine the amount of power that would consume to keep it frozen. They probably plan to build another reactor just to power it...
I don't understand why TEPCO is still being allowed to lead the clean-up

It's an insane idea. Something like those tanks which are bolted together. These are not well thought out ideas....
http://www.euronews.com/newswires/20844 ... ere-to-go/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The bolted tanks were sealed with resin and designed to last until about 2016 – long enough to buy time for Tokyo Electric Power, or Tepco, to work out a more permanent solution. But at least one of the tanks has already failed, leaking 300 tonnes of highly radioactive water that may have seeped into a drainage ditch and into the Pacific Ocean.

Because of this thread my wife (Kathleen) has been researching this, it is scary. She has been writing to people. No response from her liberal MLA, Justin Trudeau, or the UN.
Letter to NDP and response:
Hello Mr. Mulcair,
I’m concerned about the situation unfolding in Japan with regard to Fukushima. It seems to be a situation of great gravity but I haven’t heard this addressed in either the media or by my government. It would appear that both the operating company and the Japanese government alone, are unable to resolve this potentially disastrous global problem. The situation with respect to the removal of damaged spent fuel rods would, in my opinion, require a global effort. What are my governments plans? Does the international community have a plan?
Thanks very much.
……………………………………………………..
Thank you for your email. Please know that we deeply share the ongoing concerns about the debris and contamination resulting from the 2011 tsunami in Japan.
New Democrats feel that the Federal government needs to take this issue seriously. The economic and environmental implications are too severe to turn a blind eye. That is why we have repeatedly raised this issue with the Conservative government. Prior to the 2013 Spring Budget, NDP MP Peter Julian asked Finance Minister Flaherty to set aside money to deal with the debris hitting the Canadian coast. Please see attached a copy of Mr. Julian’s letter. Regrettably, his request was not met and the Conservatives have yet to act on this growing concern.
Going forward, New Democrats will continue to monitor the situation. We will urge the Conservatives to rethink their budget decisions and put the safety of Canadians first.
Again, thank you for taking the time to raise this matter with our office.
Sincerely,
Office of Thomas Mulcair, M.P. (Outremont)

In the interest of fairness, my brother supplied me with the following links in response to me posting some of this on Facebook. He works for AECL, and is biased in favor of the nuclear industry and as such, I haven't really looked at any of the info he supplied.

I'm not on an anti-nuclear crusade, I just think TEPCO are a bunch of greedy, incompetent fucktards and it will be decades before the we see the full magnitude of this disaster.

Here's a second email she sent to the Prime Minister on Sept 25th with links...no reply received.
Thank you for your reply.
I followed your link, and appreciated the content.
However, I did not see anything that adressed the potential impact of events still playing out at the Fukushima site.
I have included a few links, myself, that might better describe my concerns.

Is there any kind of plan to contribute our expertise to this endeavour? If things go wrong, at that point, there will be nothing further we can do. There are no second chances with radiation. Our lives, if we are still alive, will be irrevocably changed forever. I think we are so used to nuclear power now, that we forget how destructive it is, when not managed properly.
Thanks very much for your time.
