Raspberry Pi - Linux system for $25

Post by Jimmy » Tue Jan 24, 2012 7:31 pm

I just found out about this today, but will definitely be getting one. Basically it's a computer running linux for $25-35, has 1080p output, an ethernet connection, and a couple usb connections. It's well worth the $35 to me...

http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

Here it is running XBMC..a media center/entertainment hub.

Even if it's solely used as a media center, it's worth $35

Super cool product. Can't wait to get my hands on one. I'd like to try to turn one into a car computer.

Looks like they launched yesterday, but the initial production run is already sold out. Hopefully they'll have some more available soon.

I just found out about these things last week. Anybody using them? Know of cool things they can be used for?

These things are pretty cool, been thinking about picking one up and use it as a temperature controller/logger for a fermentation fridge. You can even make it upload the current temperature to a website, so you never have to leave the couch :p

I've been using one as a media centre for month or so now and it works great. I'll likely pick up another just to play with. Monitoring my brewday from my smartphone sounds like a good project.

That sounds like a grand idea! That in combination with the arduino kegorator app would be deadly! (http://kegbot.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

The Pi could easily replace the tablet and the arduino here. Make the project a lot cheaper.

I wish I'd known about Raspberry Pi before I bought my Apple TV. Can't sneak one in here now until I get a job...

I wonder how difficult it would be to make one work as a data logger on my PV power system.

Doesn't it also use an audrino? Pi is really more of a pc/interface substitute, it isn't really ideal for IO IMHO.

Personally I'm using Yatse on my phone and love it. My TV also supports HDM-CEC so the arrow buttons and play/stop/pause/etc.. all get forwarded on to the raspmbc and work well enough (pause/play works well, but it's a pain to navigate the UI with no 'back' button.)

My one complaint is that fast-forward/reverse don't really work that well for me.
