School projects

So... I'm a teacher.
This year at our school is the social-studies-oriented fair. I have one student who is just about completely turned off school altogether - no use for it. He's just going to inherit his dad's farm, and that's what he's going to do, and that's that. Nothin' to it. Anyway, he's been having trouble (for weeks) "working" on the fair - he had no new ideas and nothing really done. After a chat with him yesterday on crops on different crops and diversified farms, he has a new project - hops. I gave him other suggestions, but after telling him about them and what I knew, and showing him an article or two, it's the crop that stuck... just thought it was a bit funny and that I should share. I'm goin' grassroots (er... hops), here, people! Wortly, don't be surprised if you get an email from him! ;)

It may also be worth mentioning I have a student doing a project on moonshine and one on rum-running. (which they came up with on their own, I swear...)

Can't wait to see the projects! 8-)

when I was in high school, we had to do a small series of tests about what we like, dont like, personality etc, and at the end of it it would give us a list of careers that would likely suit us. I remember thinking the whole thing was stupid, so at the end I just picked random, odd-sounding jobs to present on. One of them was brewing... who knew it might be a bit accurate!

I have a couple of parents starting such a set of assessments for another student. If brewer comes up, I'd have to wonder if I'm delivering content subconsciously...

Gotta wonder if they have a father or grandfather that was once (or currently) involved in one or both. I know there was a significant amount of moonshining happening in Kings County when I was a kid.

I know one does... and is still active!
