Insuring a cube van?

So bought a 16' cube van/truck to drive across the country. The VIN will just be for the E-450 cargo van the vehicle started out as.. and I told the insurance company that it was now a 16' cube van, but they didn't seem to know what to do with that information. Just want to be sure I'm not going to get screwed later on 'if' something happens and they claim I misled them or some BS!
Anybody have any experience/knowledge with this one?
Thanks

When you move be sure to write free candy on the side of the truck

This cube van thing is turning into a major PITA!!
Going to have to insure it as a 'commercial' vehicle.. which is fine, it's only for a real short period of time anyway. Now I'm more concerned about how to register it! I don't want to get into a bunch of commercial trucking BS with inspections/fees/blah blah blah...
No Brewnosers out there that know anything about commercial trucking.. and how I can get this basic 16' cube van registered as a personal NON-COMMERCIAL vehicle??

Just insure it as a personal vehicle. It is under the weight limits that would force it to go commercial.
They shouldn't ask, just say it is your personal vehicle.

That didn't work when it came to the insurance.. fingers crossed it'll work for registration??

Insurance shouldn't matter either. Just tell them you will not be using it for commerce. They should be cool with that. If not, call someone else!

This. Your insurance agent/broker should be doing what's best for you. If they're not, time to find someone else.

If it were only that easy.. my usual insurance provider (TD) simply doesn't do commercial, and since it is a "commercial VIN" they 'can't help me, hands are tied' sort of BS. When I called another broker, they said they could only do commercial through facilities (which sounds $$, getting a quote tomorrow). I also have another broker contact to call tomorrow to see what he can do.
Whether it 'should' matter.. is turning out to be different than whether it 'will' matter..
I'm all ears for an insurance broker that will insure it as a 'non-commerical' vehicle.. and/or a contact at DMV that will be able to help me make sure I can register it as a 'non-commercial' vehicle as well. I'm a bit scared to head to the DMV at this point...

Insured ok, finally a voice of reason on the other end.
Still up in the air on registration. Need the gross vehicle weight (GVW) before I can make some phone calls.

Just read this post. Let me know what happens, Insurance Co.'s can be tricky. You want the right cover, and when they talk it can turn into "..blah, blah, deductible, blah, blah, headlight, blah, blah...."

I think you should be able to find a little punched plate somewhere around the drivers side door or hinge with the GVW

That might not be accurate though if the truck was shipped to the dealer with no box on the back though.

I think they usually update the GVW on the plates after the vans are modified.
Thanks for the help folks, I think I'm in 'decent' shape. Now as long as it holds together...

They usually do, but depending on who does the install.
