I am writing to you today with heartbreaking news. Last week I had to make the decision that NovaScotian Crystal will cease to operate.
So, in the past couple of days we have arranged with our bank to start the process—everything will happen quite quickly so we expect you will only have about 3 to 4 weeks to make any purchases from our remaining inventory. We would encourage you to call or visit us soon. We also invite you to visit us online where we will provide updated information as the process unfolds.
This is of course a time of profound sadness for us here at NovaScotian Crystal. You may recall four years ago almost to the day we were severely challenged by the 2008 economic downturn. At that time we had to take steps to significantly increase our efficiency in order to survive. The addition of the second pot was a key step, and while I believe it had put us in a position to get over the hump, we have simply run out of time and resources to make a go of it.
With your support, over the past 16 years we’ve managed to build a company known for its world class crystal. We’ve gathered an uncommonly faithful and engaged customer base. And earned a reputation for superlative customer service. With this foundation, it is possible someone might surface to pick up the torch and bring this handcrafted story to a new chapter, you never know.
Come what may, we are incredibly privileged to have served you these many years. Driven by our passion as stewards of this ancient craft, we believe that by putting our hearts and souls into every piece we crafted, and every call and email we received, we were adding a little sparkle to everyone’s life. In our own small way we were helping to make the world a brighter and more beautiful place.
I struggle to adequately express our appreciation for your having joined us on this journey. We truly hope that you experienced even a fraction of the joy we have. And we hope you will remember us fondly when you hold a piece of our crystal in your hands. We also hope your crystal will be enjoyed in the hands of generations to come. Every now and then when you hold it, close your eyes and feel the heat of the fire and breath that created it…hold it close to your ear and hear our story.
With my utmost gratitude and sorrowful regret,
On behalf of everyone at NovaScotian Crystal

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

That really sucks as that is the last shop of it's kind in North America, truly sad.

I got some sweet hand blown beer glasses when leaving my last job from that shop. Definite bummer.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
