off to KC

Post by dexter » Tue Oct 15, 2013 11:44 am

Just wondering if anyone had been to Kansas City Mo. before and if so any suggestions on where to eat/drink/things to do? I've got a list of BBQ joints I plan to go to but any and all advise is welcome :chug:

My wife's cousin competes at the Kansas City Royal every year - I can get some more BBQ joint recommendations if you want. His beer selection wouldn't be of much interest

A girl in my lab from Nebraska swears by Boulevard Brewing Co. beers, never tried them myself, but might be worthwhile to check out.

Fermenting: Oud bruin/Vienna Pekko SMaSH
On tap: Nelson dry hopped Berliner/ Scottish Heavy 70-/ NE IPA

I was in KC last year, the highest homicide rate per capita in the USA is the only thing I remember. Plus some great bbq! Enjoy.

Blvd is a great brewery! Had some on the weekend at the GABF
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I was lucky enough to get a back stage tour for free after chatting with the bartender in the tasting room, they were also nice enough to send me the grain bill (%) And hop schedule when I asked for a clone recipe if anyone is interested in their single wide IPA or their plain APA.

I'd be pretty interested in both those recipes actually. I've only had their double-wide, but it was great.

^Same here
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:
"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe
