Why do so many people drink mass produced beer?

We should understand the mega-swill business in more detail. Why is that beer so very good for the majority and so very bad for the minority.

You can’t tell a Coors Light drinker they are drinking nasty stuff. It’s like telling a religious person their god doesn’t exist. Neither can you tell people what to do. The only way to teach effectively is by example…Oh, and advertising (brainwashing).

Do we really want everyone to drink craft beer instead? Craft beer would no longer be special then. Should it be the meat and potatoes of life, or is it best as the caviar. Lobster used to be the food the poor children were embarrassed to take to school in their lunches in Newfoundland. Now it’s a luxury. Real ale was the same in the old days. Wholesome delicious home cooked bread was replaced with sliced white bread.

I put on a Festabrew Dry to appease company over the holidays. Altho my buddies now can't drink anything without flavor. They say it's too bland. I like to think I'm converting people 1 beer at a time .

I like coors light, when I heard people go on about bmc beers and how they are no good what I heard is lets get rid of the categories of Light, Standard, and Premium American Lagers (or any other style for that matter) because I don't like them. My 2 cents, keep it to yourself, 1 size doesn't fit all and never will. There is a place for all styles and all peoples. Now if the beer is actually bad, aka infected or really "off" then yes by all means don't drink it and warn others about what they may find while drinking it.

I think I see where you're going with this... if we keep craft beer to ourselves, there'll be more for us to drink

The 'crap' are the people behind the beers. That's how I judge what I drink and who I support.

I figure there's a beer out there for everyone, whether it's mass produced or craft brewed or home brewed. Everyone has different tastes. There’s nothing really wrong with mass produced beer, it just doesn't taste like craft beer. I don't look down upon people who drink Coors, the same as I don't judge by what coffee you drink or what tea someone likes. Whatever floats your boat. My $0.05 worth.

I agree with that, but sort of tying into what Mr. X said. The bad taste of these beers may come from the brewers, the advertising and the commercialism, so the drinkers of those beers are maybe getting some disrespect by default.

What about the loud American tourist who scorns the beers at the brew pub with an air of disgust, supreme knowledge and superiority, and says… "bring me a Coors Light” as though the waitress is a peasant. Saw that this summer, and it shattered my soul.

The only time I nearly spit out a Macro was Pabst Blue Ribbon. However, I wouldn't categorize most mass produced beers as tasting "bad". Most of the time these beers taste just fine for what they're offering, but they usually offer a very narrow scope of lager or pils lawnmowing beers. Craft beer simply gives you a much broader scope of styles and flavour options. But make no mistake, some can taste just as shite. Slapping a craft label on it doesn't automatically make it good.
