Beer spots in Montreal

Post by jtmwhyte » Sat Mar 12, 2016 11:15 pm

Going up to Montreal in a months time for 3 days. Gonna have a full day with the boys to hit up some beer spots. Recommendations?
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:
"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

I have only been to Bier Markt. some good beers but a lot of crap to to boost numbers. They had really cheap oysters when I was there, so that was nice.

Brutopia on crescent? We we're here last year and I was meh, i find http://saintbock.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a much better place, better food and better drink and on a street with lots and lots of different types of food. And I think it's only a 20 or so minute walk from where you are staying.

We liked Brutopia when we were there, 3-4 years ago though.

If you're looking for bottles, Deppaneur Peluso is worth a stop.

While neither are beer, if you're into food, I highly recommend checking out Au Pied de Cochon. Duck in a Can was just about the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. Just make sure you get a reservation. Joe Beef is also supposed to be very good but I haven't personally eaten there yet.

Joe Beef is excellent too. Had an awesome horse steak when I was there a couple of years ago.

Benelux is good, for sure. Dieu du Ciel is a standard. There are so many good spots for micro that it'll be hard to hit them all, and new ones open all the time.

I'll skip the ones that I wouldn't go out of my way for, but add some in order of personal preference based on ease of accessability...

Near the large library + Berri UQAM metro stop:

Amère à Boire, 2049 Rue Saint-Denis
http://www.amereaboire.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Le Saint Bock, 1749 Rue Saint-Denis
saintbock.com
Many people like Le Cheval Blanc, 809 Ontario Rue E
lechevalblanc.ca

A few blocks from the Berri UQAM metro:

Le Réservoir, 9 Ave. Duluth (tasty, and small)
http://brasseriereservoir.ca/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Convenience store Au Coin Duluth, 418 Avenue Duluth E
One of my personal favourites in bottle was from Brasserie Du Lèvre. They may have changed since I was there, but probably not a negative experience.

Brasseurs de Montréal, 775 Rue Berri
brasseurdemontreal.ca

A bit further, from Berri UQAM, and worth it:

Station HO.st, 1494 Rue Ontario E
stationhost.ca

L'Espace Public
3632 Rue Ontario E
lespacepublic.ca
(*There is a wicked plaza with a great bakery/cheese shop/coffee shop, and sausage vendor (with micro beers in fridge) close to L'espace public: Aroma 15 Place Simon-Valois
arhoma.ca. Good morning/lunch stop before getting into the brew.)

Further still, but worth it - they have lots of Quebec beers on tap. Don't know if they've got any of "their own" yet, but they had/have a great selection:

Vice & Versa
6631 Boul St-Laurent, Montréal, QC H2S 3C5

Not too late. Good to update the options in any city.
