Braggot Recipe

Post by CiderBeerWine » Sun Jul 27, 2014 3:17 pm

Hey I'm looking for a braggot recipe. I have a 2 L mini pop bottle fermenter for this experiment. I have Saaz and fuggles hops around at the moment. I envision a "beer like" drink in the end, hopefully.

Thanks

I've got one from the Compleat Meadmaker. Just have to find it. It's a Barleywine style Braggot.

for 5 gallons:

Strike water - 17 L
Sparge Water - 4 L
4 # pale malt
0.5 # crystal (? degrees L)

10 # medium amber honey (could subst 4 kg wildflower and 0.5-1kg Buckwheat honey - both available at superstore in organic section)
2 oz cascade hops - 5.5 % AA
2 tsp yeast nutrient
2 tsp yeast energizer
10 g D-47 yeast - (I'd try K1V 1116 or even EC 1118 - D47 can get stinky when stressed)

Mash at 145-155 F (quite a range) for 30 mins then sparge.
Add hops at 60 mins, and boil

Cool
Add Honey once wort down to 100 F, stir well.
oxygenate, Pitch yeast once temp down to 70 F

Extract version - subst 1.5 kg pale malt extract for the grains.

ps isn't it annoying how a lot of the units in brewing are imperial instead of metric? :)
