Beer award winners - Check in here!

Post by mr x » Mon Sep 26, 2011 1:11 pm

I wonder if we could get little stars or something like that which would appear beside names to indicate award winners? Any ideas on a system?

I could make something up similar to my administrator tag. Each person would only be able to have 1 tag though, so either "Award winner" or maybe their highest award. We could just do up a little ribbon or something too. What do you think?

Anything like that, a star or ribbon and a number for the amount of awards...?

Alright ladies, I geared this up tonight. Let me know if I missed any award winners..and make sure I got the quantity of awards correct (the number in the star below your name)

Let me know if you are having any problems with the site as far as access to certain forums, as well as PM limits..I made some changes, hopefully they don't affect anyone :eh:

Oh, and Nash...I was going to add an Award Winner rank below your name, but have no idea how many awards you've earned?!

I tend to be a modest guy, but I also favor correctness  I've won 3 bronze medals (Weizen at Great Canadian Homebrew Competition and 80/- & American Pale Ale at Toronto Beer Week)
:horse:

TonyL won a bronze at the Great Canadian Homebrew Competition too.

What about the Maine comp you entered? Did you win something there?

Everybody should be unmodest about this.

Andy, I will fix you up when I get home tonight.

Same with Tony.

Anyone else who has the wrong #, or none when you should, just post the # and I will fix you up. Don't be shy!

Maybe change this thread title - 'beer award winners read here', so everyone checks in.

I don't...if someone wants to lie about it, that's their prerogative. Not really much of a point to that though.

If someone wants to verify everyone, all the power to them

No, it was a tasty beer when fresh, but really didn't age well & I a less than glowing score. You live and you learn, keep an extra bottle and sample before you send them off.

If you insist. I own a Bronze for an English Bitter from the Canadian Amateur Winemaker's championships, some 12 or more years ago. Bobby and Jeff have judged beers at that event and can no doubt confirm that the standard is not high. Odds are good that the judges weren't BJCP qualified. I should be modest about it :-)

But I promise to enter at least two competitions in the upcoming year to find out what a real beer competition thinks.
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

I'm glad to hear that some wine snobs admitted that beer is better than wine.

Oh, don't mind me. I thought you were referring to verification on the amount of awards.

A verified member is simply someone who has access to the group buys section (ie: they filled out the "request access to group buy forum" form and are a verified user)

Sorry

I don't think they said that! What actually happened was that under the convoluted rules in place, my beer wasn't good enough to get a medal in the Amateur Winemakers of Ontario competition (where beers were iirc judged by CABA, not our wine judges), but because it was the _best_ beer in that class , I was entitled to send it on to the nationals, where they probably had no idea what they were doing but liked it enough to give it a medal.

The wine in that competition is, unsurprisingly, much better than the beer.

TonyL won a bronze at the Great Canadian Homebrew Competition too.
I've won 3 so far this year. Bronze in Calgary for a Vienna in the Cowtown Yeast Wranglers annual roundup, Bronze in Toronto for an APA in the GCHC and a gold in Montreal for a Helles in the MontreAlers first club Comp the Montreal May Madness.
I have a total of 7 medals since I started entering in comps in 2007.

The only thing i've placed in was the Garrison Brew-off
2009 - Gold (with Justin and SteveT)
2010 - Silver (with Chalmers) and Bronze (with Justin and SteveT)
2011 - Silver and Bronze (both with Justin and Chalmers)
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Hold on. Wasn't one of those with Justin's wife?

Yes you are correct, but Garrison didn't annouce that they just gave them both to Justin :slap:

And NASH, he's won a few awards. And Mr. X too.
If I'm going to get credit for being the lesser half of the Feruz collab, then these guys deserve more than that!
