Working on a new template
Just wanted to let everyone know, I am working on a new layout for the site and it's not just for the look.
With the previous layout, adding modifications to the site was difficult because it wasn't a "standard" theme that came with phpbb. The one you see now, is slightly modified by myself, but uses the theme that comes with the software. This allows me to install most mods without any hassle, as most of them are designed and tested for this theme. I hope the new theme works for everyone, and let me know of any bugs you encounter.

I've also added a quick reply function to the forums (see quick reply button at bottom of existing topics), as well as feature that gives you a quick view of the words contained within the first post of a topic. To see the text, place your mouse over the topic and a bubble will show with the text from the first post.

Have we still got our password for the group buy section?

Sure do. Everything should stay as it was before (permissions, posts, attachments, etc). All that I changed was the layout, and added some new features.

Can you tweak the color that new topics (& topics with new posts) show up as? I find it a bit tricky to tell the difference between old & new stuff.

How is it now? I was actually working on that..I'm still not happy with it, but it should make it better for the time being.

Re: Working on a new template
You need to make the new post icon look even more different (for us colorblind folks).
these are just some various suggestions for options:
Yellow and Blue
Light and Dark.
Different shape or image
Also:
is there any way to change the settings so that the user's info (avatar, etc.) shows up on the left?
It's not a huge deal... but it's that way on every other forum I'm on, and it's throwing me for a bit of a loop.

I gotta admit that my very first thought was "Jimmy the Beer" is on the wrong side of the page now. I really don't think it'll bother me for long...

Ill see what I can do about the post icons. Right now they are grey for nothing new, and orange-ish for anything new.ratchet wrote:You need to make the new post icon look even more different (for us colorblind folks).

As for the users info on the right, I am not sure. I will look into it soon, won't get around to it tonight though.

Re: Working on a new template
no worries man... whenever you can get to it.
it helps to use something like vischeck (http://www.vischeck.com/) or greybit (http://graybit.com/) to evaluate your image choices.
all you'd have to do is change the .bmp file itself (everything else would stay the same.)

Re: Working on a new template
That's actually what I was working on, but wanted to change all the icons. I am going to try and find/make some new ones. I've already got a few modified, but there are actually quite a few different icons (ones for hot topics, topics you've posted in, sticky topics, announcements, etc)..so it's not just a couple that need to be changed. I will get around to it, but probably not this weekend. I will probably change the main ones tomorrow though, so it makes it easier for some folks.

Perhaps I'm just blind... It was there this time! I can't help thinking it didn't just momentarily disappear

Ratchet, I've changed the icons. You might have to refresh your browser, but you shouldn't have a problem with the colors now

Today I added a field to the profile section under the "User Control Panel" for your facebook account. To add your facebook, just enter the end part of the link when on your own profile (see image below; "JimmyBeaman" is what I would enter for mine).
The link to your facebook profile will show under your profile, as well as under your name whenever you post.

Re: Working on a new template
The search function seems a bit frigged up:

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: garrison.

Re: Working on a new template
Yeah, I am going to have to look at it. I know I can change the percentage that equates to "too common". I think its set at 5 percent right now.

Should be good now. I will play with it a little more when I get to Moncton later today, though you should notice a difference now.

Re: Working on a new template
I understand not wanting to have our content hijacked, but having all the smilies replace by a "No Hotlinking" image in the RSS feeds really uglifies things.

Didn't know they were doing that. I will look into having them work in the feed.

Re: Working on a new template
Can we get the site icon back? favicon, or something. I find it easier to find the site when I've got 30 tabs open.

Jim, if you get a chance, take a look at my pic in the bacon thread (event forum) and tell me why my pic is cut in half. Thanks.
