Lost Posts

Post by GuingesRock » Sat Oct 05, 2013 2:29 pm

Several new posts on different threads, and an entire new thread (Kegarator Project: Stages by Keith Forbes) went missing this morning. I noticed some technical issues going on, and I also just noticed that a typo that I edited in one of my posts had reverted back to before it was fixed. I’m suspecting that the site reverted to an earlier time this morning at some point.

...either that or I'm going off my trolley :pow:

I lost a post on Keith's Kegerator thread and also one on the history of Brewnoser's thread (re-posted that one, hope that's ok).

This email arrived at 10.04 this am:

There was a server malfunction this morning, so maybe some things aren't quite the same as they used to be...
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Yeah - this is the note from this morning. I didn't post anything because I've been busy all day with reno's and running around.
Issue Description:Posted On: 05 Oct, 2013 - 03:21

Dear Customer,

Our own in-house developed system for Early Hard Disk Detection and Warning has signaled that there is an issue with the hard drive of the server on which your MySQL databases and email messages are stored. At this time the system has tracked that only parts of the hard drive are damaged. Even though hardware issues like this are extremely rare and beyond anyone’s control, we have immediately taken preventive measures to keep your website and databases intact. Please keep in mind that the hard drive is still functioning and your website is up and running.

With this message we would like to inform you how we will deal with the situation. In order to be able to always react quickly in critical situations, we keep spare hardware that has been previously tested and is ready-to-use at any time. To make sure that your website remains intact and all information is preserved, we will take the following steps:

Replace the damaged hard drive - we will replace the damaged hard drive with a brand new and an extensively tested one.
Transfer data – we will start transferring all data simultaneously from the old (damaged) hard drive and from our backup server in order to speed up the transfer process and avoid downtime.
Synchronize information – when the transfers from both places overlap, all data will be synchronized so that it is up to date. We do not expect your website and databases to be affected in any way. In case any data is lost from the old hard drive, it will be restored from the backup server during the synchronization process.
Also, we would like you to keep a few things in mind during the transfer process:

Slow connection speed is possible– during the transfer your website will be up and running but still slow connection speed may be present at times due to the high amount of data being transferred to the server via the backup copy process.
Postpone content modifications – we recommend delaying any database modifications to your account during the transfer in order to prevent any data loss.
Once the transfer has finished and all data is synchronized, there will be a short downtime of the server. We will have to switch off the server to remove the damaged hard drive and replace it with the new one. Then, we will start the server so that the new hard drive will take over the hosting of your website. We expect that the server will be down for approximately 10 minutes.

We would like to assure you that all measures to preserve your website have been taken and the following specialists are working on the issue:

The head system administrator of SiteGround;
An experienced technician from our datacenter, exclusively dealing with the affected server;
SiteGround support team representatives, entirely dedicated to this problem.
Our team would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during the resolution of the problem. We would like to kindly ask you not to post trouble tickets in the Helpdesk area regarding your account during the transfer process. The SiteGround technical team will keep you updated on the progress of our work by posting regular messages in the Server Status Check section and will do everything possible to quickly restore service.

Best regards,

The SiteGround Team
