Unfortunately, I only have one keg and I'd like to start another brew before it's empty. If I make a lager it's not a problem as I can let it lager in the fridge until the keg is ready to fill, but I'd like to make ale this time and was wondering how long can I leave it in the secondary? I don't know how long it will take to empty the keg, I can't go too fast or the wife will get annoyed. Not that she drinks it but I don’t always function properly with too much beer in me.
Thanks
How long?

Re: How long?
You are good to leave it for as long as you need pending the headspace is purged of all oxygen. alternative would be to pick up a another keg

Re: How long?
Thanks, this keg was my first attempt at making beer and it turned out great so I'm hooked on making my own and looking forward to more. I'll be off to get another kit now.
I'm using a ball lock keg and I've seen lots on Kijiji for sale but I put one or two on my Christmas list so I have to wait.
One more question. I've always used glass carboys but I was given a couple of the plastic better bottles. They are much lighter and less breakable and I was wondering if anyone has had issues with them and if they clean as easily as glass?

I have used them and they do clean well but do it right away. They are a bitch when stuff is dryed and you can damage them with excessive brushing.

Great after hearing about the injury and mess a broken glass carboy causes I'll give them a try. I have a soft carboy cleaner that uses a drill so it should be gentle enough.GAM wrote:I have used them and they do clean well but do it right away. Re: How long?
the only problem i've had with the better bottles is when you move them the bottles flex a bit when full and can suck whatever is in the airlock into the beer
