You could call it "The Immigrant" German Ale as it has but one German ingredient

Ein Bier, zwei Bier, drei Bier, vier Bier, fuenf Bier, besoffen.
Das Bier would be correct.
And that would Master Chimney Sweep for the District. Actually, a highly regarded profession in the old country, more praised than the fire chief, I guess one comes before the other, nevertheless, both very thirsty.

Why brew beer I can buy?

As requested a picture.
While I was bottling I had to have a sample or two. It is difficult to take a decent picture when there is condensation. Finished product all ready to go!

Ah, it's German pale ale. I'd take a glass of that right now. It looks really good.

Sadly I had to substitute with Mt. Hood as I was unable to get Hallertauer at the time.jtmwhyte wrote:You could call it "The Immigrant" German Ale as it has but one German ingredient
My post boil gravity was around 1.042, so a little low.spuds wrote:This is on my to do list. I just have a question at 3.9kg of fermentables is your og high or?
Not so fancy, just something I printed off http://www.beerlabelizer.com. Quick simple labels, just make sure they are laser prints and not ink.Keith wrote:Looks tasty, and your labels are much fancier than mine.

Jeff,
What style is this suppose to be? Just for BJCP judges who are doing score cards?

This 31 step program seems to be the opposite of the 12 step one I need to explore in January.

Re: Advent #4 - German Ale
That's a good question. I am still fairly new to brewing and never really thought about it. I have been calling it German because of the Noble Hops, Tettnanger and Hallertaur. Looking through the BJCP styles I would say that it fits in the Standard American Lager category?Keith wrote:Jeff,

I will also say that the flavour has changed since bottling. I had mine yesterday for quality control, and then had to have one from the keg to see if it was something with the bottling. They were identical, so maybe something in my process or just maturity? I look forward to comments and suggestions both good and bad.

Re: Advent #4 - German Ale
yea with it being a ale wouldn't fall into a lager. Based on the beer stats, and the color of the beer in the pic. I'd have to give my best guess that this would probably be best submitted as a Scottish Export? Would anyone else care to agree\disagree on this?

I'd say American Cream Ale would be spot on. I did a beer very similar to this back in the spring.

Beer looks awfully dark (could be lighting) for a cream ale. Doesn't a cream ale top out at 5SRM?

Re: Advent #4 - German Ale
It does—Jeff's recipe lists the colour at 6.9 EBC (= 3.5 SRM). Looks a bit darker than that, but that could just be due to kettle caramelization, or possibly lighting of the photo.Keith wrote:Beer looks awfully dark (could be lighting) for a cream ale. Doesn't a cream ale top out at 5SRM?
