I couldn't put my finger on what I was tasting; but that's definitely it. I noticed it, but not as a bad thing. Overall I quite liked the hop flavor and found it fairly well balanced.pet lion wrote:Nice and hoppy. Worst I can say is that it has a bit of oniony hop flavour which I think I am sensitive to but not enough that this isn't enjoyable.

Just got around to this one as I was battling a cold. Lots of up front bitterness which I like, quite smooth those. Few mouthfuls and already feeling it a bit. Good job.

Just curious as to what your grain bill was in lbs? brain hurts when trying to do math haha, was it just the same from that recipe or did you modify it as well?Woody wrote:Thanks everyone for the feed back and Dave for the great info. I had allot of fun making this beer. The smell of the boil was amazing. I'm sad to say I haven't had the pleasure of trying "Pliny the Elder". IIPA's are my favorite style to brew any readings I have done have led me to info by Vinnie Cilurzo & Russian River Brewing. I've heard the recipe uses hop extract but found the below link and recipe. When I saw the hop schedule I knew I had to try and brew it.

im on daves site pricing it all out trying to figure the cost to brew this lol
I've brewed: Oktoberfest, Belgian Tripple, Summer Ale (Keiths Clone), Home Brewed Ginger Ale, Rory's Red Irish Ale, Honey Brown, Russian Imperial Stout, Krölsch

I'll cut and paste the recipe tonight from Beersmith when I'm home. The above recipe is what I used and made the numbers work for my BIAB setup. I increased it to 7 gallons due to bottling the batch for the exchange but the next one I'll do the 6 gallon and end up with a keg after all the loss due to hops . I would recommend going exactly with the recipe the brewer used above. I've done some reading and think you should scrap the Centennial and use Amarillo. Pretty sure the above is an old Pliny recipe and the new has Amarillo or hop oil. That's what I'll be doing next.
