I say it's about time these foreign owned breweries were put in their place.
Not sure your title is quite right, as the Beer Store chose to withdraw their sponsorship, they weren't kicked out. And BS doesn't manufacture beer. But obviously members of Beer Canada (the other group who pulled their support) do manufacture beer, but it is true that not all of them are foreign-owned. I wonder whether B.C. members PEI Brewing (who were neck-and-neck for Brewery of the Year last year), Wellington, or Quidi Vidi still entered (I'm guessing yes).

The new rules state "only a Canadian-owned brewery or cidery whose products are produced and packaged in Canada", which I think is good, thought part of me thinks it should be open to whoever brews here, uses Canadian ingredients, and employs Canadians. I dunno.

Yea, my subject line could of been better. As you can tell I can't stand the Beer Store, so I may of been unfair. I am still happy about the decision they made.

Woo, that could be a can of worms. How many breweries are using only Canadian hops and/or malt? Guessing quite a few would be using primarily American hops and a good portion of specialty malt from Europe.

You're not wrong, my requirements are probably even more restrictive than the CBA's. We are definitely not seeing many local beers made with solely Canadian ingredients. So scratch that idea.

Supreme Court to hear appeal of NB alcohol case:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-bruns ... -1.4097320

As I've mentioned before, this is a much bigger issue than simply being able to bring cheap beer over from Quebec. This is actually about all goods travelling between provinces. Should be interesting to see what happens.

I like the part in the interview where Canada is in the US with talks about NAFTA, but we have trade barriers in our own country. Hypocrites.

NAFTA doesn't allow you to bring unlimited amounts of alcohol across the border though

Awesome article, but isn't it Big Spruce that's making the "Tag" beer?

Kde se pivo vaří, tam se dobře daří. Where beer is brewed, life is good.

That's a great video. Funny that there was dead air at the end of the clip and he comes out with "oh yeah that's great beer"

Thanks for the kind words, folks! As I mentioned in the Seaport thread, we had a blast pouring the fizzy lemon water, as well as beer from a few NB and NS breweries. Plenty of great chats with homebrewers and beer lovers alike, and there was certainly a fair number of "Whatcha got? Highest alcohol!" drinkers too, like most any beer fest.

"Bureaucratic complacency, political status quo, and archaic legislation are stifling the NS Craft Beer industry. Government MUST react quickly in support of good news stories as they occur. Nova Scotia is missing a chance here. A chance to say: "Hey World, we're the best Craft Beer jurisdiction in this great country of ours! Craft Beer junkies wanted!”"

"Nova Scotia Liquor Corp., which is in the uniquely conflicted position of being both a retailer and the regulatory agency for alcohol," In Newfoundland the situation is even more ridiculous. The NLC is regulator, retailer and producer. Competing with and regulating its own clients. The very definition of conflict of interest. In Newfoundland, we too, love our bureaucracies.
