AB-InBev purchasing craft breweries - a blog post

Post by CorneliusAlphonse » Tue May 09, 2017 1:07 am

I found this quite informative and interesting. Some of the actual reasons to be concerned about the big guys buying small craft breweries (besides gut instinct mistrust)

Insightful stuff and pretty scary! More incentive for small breweries to stay small and to make beer better than the big guys can

Heineken obtaining Lagunitas surprised me.

Sleeman, Creemore, Mill Street, Granville - four Canadian examples of craft swallowed by multinational megaswillage...

Sadly, if you throw enough money around (as only the big players like AB InBev can), there will always be those who will sell out (to the detriment of the craft category as a whole). "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse..." literally and figuratively in some cases. Buy out vs. force out.
On Tap at The Frisky Lemur Pub: Pumpkin Spice Ale; Frisky Lemur IPA; ESB; CranApple Cider; RazBerliner
Fermenting/Conditioning/Bottled: Joyeux Noel Holiday Spiced Ale; NEIPA

And in related news, AB-InBev essentially controls the South African hop market, and just blocked hop sales to north american independent breweries.

Huh, I didn't know there were South African hops. I'm guessing it's probably not looking great for us either.

Lol. Go ahead AB-InBev, block hops to Canada. Create a demand for more local homegrown products. Kind of like Jamaica blocking weed into Canada- we know how that prohibition ended.

I brew mostly Pilsners so kiss my ass AB. I googled how many breweries Ab/Inbev owns and the list is endless. They don't own my beer, well yet.
