Loved this one - the coconut came through quite a bit and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I quite enjoyed this. There's enough roastiness to balance the sweetness and some nice chocolate character. Despite the sweetness it still finished quite dry, in an almost tannic way. There was also something I was tasting that I couldn't place but that I knew should be obvious. Sure enough, upon looking at the recipe, I realized the finish is likely from the tea and the obvious flavor I couldn't name was coconut, which comes through very well considering the fairly small amount used.

Unlike Aaron I got coconut from opening the bottle. But I really liked how consistent it was throughout the drink and even as it warmed. Good technique for introducing that flavour without oil. I also really liked how it’s a dark beer but light. Easy to drink. Not sure of alcohol. Will check recipe. But judged as a specialty coconut sweet stout the only thing that takes it from the style is what I like about it. It’s not cloying and goopy. Great job.

This so good, I love coconut and I love stouts. In fact if you don’t mind I might give this one a go myself so I have a full keg to drink!

Coconut was coming through big time. I think I'm a little sensitive to it and I found it too much. Got better as it warmed though! Thanks for the beer.

I drank this without knowing what it was, other that what it said on the label. I noticed the coconut right away and I liked it (I'm a huge coconut fan anyway). I don't have much to say because I thought this was great and I drank it too fast.
Thanks for a great beer!

First impression I thought it was perhaps vanilla you had added, took me a moment to get the coconut. Had to look at the recipe to confirm. Not personally a fan of coconut, but it does meld into this beer quite well. Some sweetness and chocolate flavours, and a hint of coffee roast. Well made beer

Having this one now, and really enjoying it. Great body without being overly sweet or thick. Tea is a nice addition and makes this beer standout
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Amazing beer, you've inspired me to try to make a coconut stout.
Just looking at the recipe now, thought I tasted lactose

Loved this beer. Great mouthfeel, well rounded, did not take me long to make it disappear. Wish there was more!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I’ve made this recipe a few times now, both ‘plain’ and with various teas (my wife is a David’s Tea fanatic, so I just raid the cupboard at brewing time). The actual astringent tea character came through more in this batch that in previous versions for some reason. And I definitely get an alcoholic ‘bite’ at the end, likely due to a lower than expected OG in combination with that slug of vodka. But I'm my own worst critic; glad everyone enjoyed it.

Behind a few days still, both on drinking and posting. I should keep notes. I liked this, and I wasn’t really expecting to, since I’ve never been a huge fan of sweet stouts. I thought the coconut was a good addition.

A beautifully dark and mysterious ale. Lots of roasted coconut and chocolate flavours in what has accurately been described before as a dark beer with a light feel. I wonder what it might taste like aged in a rum or bourbon barrel? The sweetness wasn't too pronounced as in other sweet stouts, which was a bonus for me. Very tasty.
Thank you!
