Hoptoberfest 2019 - September 21st

Post by KMcK » Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:08 pm

September 21, 4:00 until late. E-mail me for address.

It's that time of year again! Start brewing your hoppy beers if you haven't yet and bring them out to my place in the west end of Halifax. Last year's Hoptoberfest was great fun so let's try to make this year's at least as good. If you want to come fill out the sign-up sheet so we have an idea of who's likely coming and what they're bringing.

We need some volunteers to help with the organization as there are many tasks to undertake (ice, food, promotion, sponsorship, etc.). Check out previous years' threads on the topic if you want to know more or contact me or Chalmers.

Hoptoberfest 2019 (date poll and sign-up)

Post by wcturnedec » Tue Aug 06, 2019 10:48 pm

I should be able to make it as well depending on the date, already have some beers in the pipeline!

I also think we should go the route of getting some sausages made, I believe in the past Cavicchis did the hop sausages from Nash’s recipe. If not Cavicchis a friend of my wife runs a butcher shop in Dartmouth and has made sausages for our Oktoberfest parties in the past. I’m happy to organize if their is interest.

Yes, the hop sausages were popular the years that we had them. I can supply the hops if you can find the recipe. I believe someone picked up fresh buns from a bakery the morning of the event as well.

Alternatively I can do burgers on the barbecue (or we could have tacos; I know a guy).

Mmmmmm tacos would be great....but for some reason beer in the fall screams sausages to me! haha

Last time did everyone pitch in for the sausages or what was the arrangement?

We estimated a price with a bit of a buffer and added it to the sign-up sheet. Someone fronted the cost and collected at the event. We refrigerated or froze the remaining ones and sold them to a few people in the following days.

I've added a column to the spreadsheet for sausages. Please indicate how many you would like and Cam and I will work on the details.

The date poll and spreadsheet both load in a browser on my iPhone. Maybe you have to downgrade to the 4S.

I'm in!!

A couple years ago I brought pizzas and they were devoured, shall I make more or do we think the sausages will cover us for food? I've upped my pizza game, beware.

Your pizza two years ago was excellent so if you've upped your game since then I couldn't possibly say no. Nevertheless sausages are easier to mange for people coming and going all afternoon and evening. I'm open to both or either.

Like I said I'm happy to do the sausages, looks like a few years (2015) back they ordered around 20lbs of sausages but there were far more attendees that year. I'll get in touch with Nash to see how many sausages his recipe (viewtopic.php?t=5407) would make.

Folks, what are people's thoughts on spreading the word out the Ladies Beer League? I know some of their members have attended in previous years but it might be helpful for them to be in the know since their membership is pretty strong, and really the more the merrier!

Grant Cavicchi and I grew up together. (This is how the original connection happened). I can hit him up. I work close to the shop. How many would we be feeding?

Second I’ve been. Bringing LBL members since almost before there was one. This is a great idea especially after the recent collab at the Snotport beer fest.

That recipe makes about 100 sausages.

You probably only need half. But if you did 20 lbs that would be 64 ish.

What doesn’t get eaten sell at cost

I worked the Brewnosers table and chatted with some of the LBL members would really like to involve them since they are of a similar mindset!

Ok I was chatting with Nash, he mentioned about 5oz per link....Kyle added a column to the sign up sheet here:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0 sheet for hop sausages so we can get a sense of how many we might want to order ahead of time. But like you said we can always order extra and sell at cost, seems to be what has happened in the past.

We need a date first.

57 NS breweries. 20 attended. You basically pay Your competitor so you came come to give away your beer in a place he charges admission to enter, and you work for free.

I went to the Unfiltered booth. They posted directions on how to find it on Twitter

Lol...I was there. At least the price of admission and free beer brought Allagash White into NS!!!
